11 Reasons the Greenery Wedding Trend is Here to Stay

By Morgan Monaghan, Marketing Associate

Weddings and flowers are a classic combination — but we’re seeing a trend of lush greenery overtaking florals as the main décor accent at weddings all over the world. We love this organic trend, and also the creativity we’re seeing in how planners and designers are incorporating verdant vines and towering trees into the most elegant of celebrations. Here we’ve highlighted 11 ways you can use greenery — found in 11 real weddings on PartySlate — on your big day.

1. Vine-Circled Ketubah

Affairs With Linda brought this industrial wedding to life with beautiful greenery from Amy Crum Designs strategically placed throughout the celebration. Artifact Events hosted the wedding at their lofty space that boasts large windows and exposed brick — adding that modern yet historied vibe we love so much in raw spaces. The couple even had a lovely garland of greenery painted onto their ketubah, a traditional marriage contract they can put up in their home after their wedding. We love how delicate vines draped from the couple’s chuppah and how that organic feel carried onto the tabletops.

2. Greenery-Covered Guest Seating

Greenery seems to be the main theme at this gorgeous outdoor wedding by LVL Weddings & Events, and we are totally obsessed. The well-manicured green grass at Montage Kapalua Bay is the perfect setting for towering arches that house feathering leaves gently blowing in the Hawaiian breeze. The natural feel is brought to life by the addition of various earthy elements, such as wooden signs and chairs, as well as pink and white floral designs from Wild Heart  Flowers throughout the event. Another highlight of this ceremony — an element we haven’t seen before — is how greenery and lovely gauzy white fabric was hung over the guests seats as well, fully enveloping them in the nuptials.

3. Verdant Venue

When it comes to lush weddings in Chicago, Crystal Gardens at Navy Pier always tops the list of potential venues. The spot boasts a towering glass structure housing some of the most beautiful flora in the city. This Parisian-inspired wedding from VKL Consulting Group was perfectly set in the spacious venue. The celebration was flooded with sunlight; the natural light filtering through trees furthered the feeling that guests were dining in a secret forest. We love how the designers from Virginia Wolff Inc. mixed lavender and greenery, the shades of purple popping against the endless greens. View the full event to delight in the way Crystal Garden’s fountains added movement — as water hopped over guests heads — and to see how the Navy Pier Ferris wheel added fun evening lighting.

4. Indoor Trees as Décor

This couple really dedicated themselves to the greenery trend by carrying the hue through to the luxurious cloths from BBJ Linen in a muted seafoam green that acted as a neutral tone throughout the event. North Shore Weddings and Events went above and beyond here, with a rich, leafy outdoor ceremony, eye-catching eclectic table decor that wowed guests, and gorgeous trees brought indoors, carrying the lushness into the reception. Amy Beck Cake Design was even in on the theme, baking a stunning green-marbled cake that was perched on a table as lovely décor before being devoured.

Events at the luxuriously large space at The Geraghty are always over-the-top lovely, including this indoor garden event. Visually stunning and magical, greenery is used in the most dramatic of ways — elegantly draped from the ceiling by Floral Exhibits, and interspersed with candle-like chandeliers. The rich emerald leaves glowed with an effervescent feel that flows throughout the entire event, as beautifully curated by Kehoe Designs, mingling with the perfectly-dappled lighting from BlackOak Technical Productions. View the full event to see the colorful custom-printed dance floor and how tree branch projections furthered the garden vibe.

This event showcases a more understated, lovely way to bring the outdoors in. New York’s 620 Loft & Garden, in addition to a wow-worthy grassy rooftop, provides a light and bright indoor space. The floral team at Spina accented the city-view windows with lush greenery and blush-toned blooms, adding a fresh dimension to the clean, modern space. The long family-style table from the large collection at Party Rental Ltd. continues the organic feel with a green garland interspersed with florals, kept low to allow for conversation and connection. View the full event to see how the flexible, view-centric rooftop garden was used for the ceremony, then again for lounging into the evening.

7. Fragrant Flora Settings

This outdoor wedding took place almost entirely without the presence of a roof, so we’re glad Mother Nature cooperated. We adore so many elements from this event, especially the way nature seamlessly mingled with the carefully-comped outdoor lounge areas to create a luxe outdoor experience. Flying Diamond Ranch provided the perfect property at which to host this event, with gorgeous quaking Aspen trees and lush green grass. Nestled among the trees, Pink Monkey Solutions brought rich boho pieces in bright velvets that added to the magic of the day.  The Grace and Gather-planned celebration featured dreamy fairy lights strung between trees and tables, and we especially love how Flora by Nora styled the tabletops with a fragrant sprig of eucalyptus at each setting.

8. Suspended Centerpieces

A meadow, wildflowers, and rolling hills were the movie-perfect setting for this Tuscan-inspired private estate wedding. The tented reception conjured luxury with a rich, refined neutral palette of creams and whites. Sheer alabaster draping by Exquisite Events Details & Decor on a towering tent form from Bright Event Rentals defined the space in which the planners at 42 North worked their indoor/outdoor magic, weaving natural elements into the whole of the celebration. Upholstered wood chairs and sheer ivory linen complemented the long kings table, but the most stunning element was the installation perched above the tabletop — suspended greenery from Dana Markos Events trickling down between white chandeliers. The greenery defined the dining space while also marrying the reception to the outdoor ceremony.

9. Garden-Inspired Invitations

Invitations are the first message your guests will receive about the feel of your upcoming wedding. These paper sentinels set the tone — and we adore how the planners at Alfred House Productions gave guests a preview of the impending lush garden celebration with artistic invitations incorporating images of greenery. And true to the promise, friends and family were greeted by delicate greenery at the entrance of The Wayfarers Chapel in Los Angeles. The garden space at Redbird Los Angeles was the perfect setting for the toast-happy reception, nestled among trees and hedges. White tablecloths from La Tavola Fine Linen allowed gold chargers to shine, while light blush napkins rounded out the garden oasis color scheme. We even found greenery tucked into this event in the most creative ways, including the cake which sat atop a bed of branches, and the sage tucked into each guest’s napkin.

10. Succulent Seating Cards

We’re obsessed with the way greenery and ivory combine for a luxurious vibe. Kiawah Island Golf Resort near Charleston, South Carolina is a picture-perfect venue that allowed this wedding to go above and beyond in terms of greenery and scenery. WED event planners worked with the floral professional at SYG Designs to wrap the chandeliers as well as the perimeter of the tent draping in lush leaves. The natural wooden chairs and tables added to the overarching natural vibe. But our favorite creative use of greenery at this event has to be the beautiful little succulents wrapped in burlap offered as place cards to direct guests to their seats. Not only did it make for a sweet take-home gift, but the mini greenery added additional dimension to the tables once guests were seated.

11. Garland of Greens

It’s not easy to compete with a stunning sunset, but this gorgeous dinner party from the team at Daniel Events managed to captivates guests (and us) at an event we wish we could’ve been invited to. The long wooden king’s table perched against a scene of turquoise water and a glorious pink and purple dusk that lit up the coast line — and magically coordinated with the table’s centerpieces. Towering arrangements held blooms and greenery aloft, with draping vines playing up the summer bohemian vibes paired with a luxurious feel befitting the Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach. We especially love how the garland of greenery and florals flowed down the table’s center and right off the end, looking effortless and beautiful.
