21 Top Chicago Wedding Photographers for Your Big Day

Photography: Inspired Eye Photography | Venue: The Lakewood| Floral and Design: Stemming From Love | Event Planner: Urban Allure Events

Making celebratory memories is one of the great joys of life. Reliving those moments is another. When you hire a photographer to capture your once-in-a-lifetime event, you need someone you trust, with an artistic style you admire, who’s intuitive enough to capture the right moments. It’s a tall order — which is why we’ve curated a list of our favorite Chicago wedding photographers to capture your weekend celebrations.

We love Andrew Weeks’ ability to be in the right spot to witness a beautiful interaction — and his commitment to capturing those authentic moments for his clients.

How would you describe your style & what do you love about capturing special events?

A wedding day is full of beauty (natural and planned), excitement, emotion, a tiny bit of nerves, and a whole lot of love. You do not need a photographer messing up that magic recipe, trouncing all over your moments and making your wedding feel more like a photo shoot with a wedding on the side.

My philosophy is quite simple: On your wedding day you and yours should be utterly absorbed in the moments of your day. You shouldn’t be bothered with the documentation of them. That’s my job and it’s what I love to do. With my years of experience, I’ve mastered the craft of leaving the smallest of imprints on your day while still capturing the essence, the meaning, and the story of it through my photographs.

My goal is not to gain followers or likes or to be published in magazines. It’s so much more than that — it’s to give my clients the gift of time travel. So whether it’s one year later, or on their 50th anniversary, they can always rely on my photographs to bring them back to the moments and the essence of the day they promised their love to one and another for forever.

This team’s varied background makes for creative, inspired images; we love the way they step back to capture a full scene and story as it unfolds.

How would you describe your style?

Classic. Timeless. Authentic. Sometimes romantic. Always beautiful.

We are passionate storytellers—photographers, film makers, and designers working together to celebrate your story. Guided by award-winning photographer, Amanda Sudimack for two decades, Artisan Events® creates timeless, inspired love stories. Our natural, journalistic images are curated for you in elegant handcrafted books & albums because we know every detail counts.

What do you love about capturing special events?

I love when the whole story comes together—the album, in my opinion, is the final piece of the story puzzle. Everything up to that point leads up to the final story.

We appreciate the way this team seeks out and reliably captures interactions between people — those glances that tell a story and the laughs that joyful memories are built on.

How would you describe your style?

We describe our photography style as dynamic, bright and airy, and filled with elegant charm.

What do you love about capturing special events?

We love capturing weddings and enjoy the challenge of looking at the event through the eyes of the bride and groom and also the guests. The emotions and the feelings guide our compositions so that we are photographing more than what is just seen with our eyes, but also what is felt in everyone’s heart as they celebrate the couple.

What’s your favorite photo you captured in 2018?

Attached is our favorite photo from 2018. Lexi and Nick were so relaxed and comfortable with each other and it was a gorgeous day at one of our favorite locations in Chicago, the South Gardens at the Art Institute.

This duo captures images that are instantly iconic — we love how their documentary style influences their images for unique compositions that tell the interesting story of your day, and your life.

How would you describe your style?

We are documentary photographers who have to feel what we shoot. We don’t have a bag of gimmicks and tricks, rather we shoot what we see and feel. Of course we have to know how to make light where there is none and we have be prepared so we always stake out locations and venues well before a shoot. But, inevitably, the light changes — everything changes — and we have to deviate from the plan. Real life, including weddings, doesn’t always go as planned but the turns and twists are what we thrive on. Those things and the stuff going on in between are what make the photos that convey what people were feeling at a particular moment. We have to let ourselves bend and sway with the wind to be good at what we do and that dance is pure joy to us.

What do you love about capturing special events?

Having fun and staying relaxed but focused is a huge part of our job. We are with a bride and groom more than any other single person on a wedding day so our job must go beyond taking great photos and not missing a thing — we are sometimes their advocate, sometime their protector, and always their documenter. It’s a role that sometimes takes our breath away and one that we absolutely cherish.

This pair’s connection makes for a synergy and creativity that’s evident in their images; we love how they can capture a sweeping space as well as an intimate moment.

How would you describe your style?

We would describe our style as authentic, timeless, and refined.

What do you love about capturing special events?

What we love about photographing special events is making families feel more connected by celebrating what it is that they love about each other. Every family is unique and incredibly special and deserves to be photographed in an authentic way that when they look at their photos, they feel a connection and it brings joy to their lives that they will remember forever.

We appreciate how this team uses lighting to create mood, resulting in gorgeous, artistic images that freeze time.

How would you describe your style?

We blend our editorial style with photojournalism in a way that showcases our couple’s personality,  meaningful moments, and the ambiance and atmosphere to create rich, vibrant photos.

How would you describe your style?

My style is a combination of timeless candid moments combined with gorgeous editorial that always has the feeling of real movement, motion, and expression.

What’s your favorite photo of 2018?

Love working with clients who are unafraid to take risks, and for me, branching out to working with a smoke bomb was very cool on this Colorado destination wedding. The leather jacket, the smoke, the scenery, it all came together to become my favorite photo of the year!

We appreciate the way this team creates a comfortable atmosphere so that they’re able to capture authentic, unique, moving images that stir emotion and memories.

We love this photographer’s eye for detail and good-natured approach that allows subjects to relax and get authentic.

How would you describe your style?

My style is best described as new traditional. Think classic old Hollywood films in romantic black and white mixed with your favorite candid moments. We’ll be sure to capture the safe family formals for the frame on the mantle, and all the fun in between!

What do you love about capturing special events?

I love seeing family and friends come together and celebrate life’s milestones! It’s an honor to be brought in to share these special times.

We appreciate the range of subjects this team photographs — each type informs the other, making for varied, interesting, and often surprising images.

What do you love about capturing special events?

We love the locations, the designs — but mostly the people. The people make everything beautiful. The brides, the society girls, the fathers, the doctors, the leaders, the children, the chefs, mothers, artists and CEOs — everyone has a role, a job and something to do but inside are just little boys and girls being themselves pretending! We love to capture people being themselves, their real selves. It’s complicated and when it works, we feel bigger, stronger and faster. When we’re in the flow, we get to feel what our subjects feel and be present with them. That’s what we love about taking pictures — being somebody else for a few moments!

How would you describe your style?

Directed editorial meets fashion documentary.

We love how this team is ever-present yet not visible so that touching moments can unfold organically — while they capture every loving expression and secret smile.

How would you describe your style & what do you love about capturing special events?

First and foremost, I am a people watcher. I love those organic moments between couples, wedding guests, and family that are 100% genuine. Capturing that moment when something incredibly authentic happens makes my heart race. I am a perfectionist and a realist at the same time — it’s an oxymoron, I know! BUT, I want to get things right without sacrificing the realness of the moment. I strive to provide a super fun environment for my clients so they can forget the camera is around, allowing me to capture those magical moments that become wall-worthy art that are colorful, playful and timeless — you know the ones — those big belly laughs, perfectly crazy looks you give each other, or that quiet breath while holding each other close.

I love capturing a couple’s big day — so much excitement, nerves, love and fun!

We adore how this photographer plays with light to build mood and drama, resulting in creative, soulful images.

How would you describe your style?

Documentary editorial with a creative curve and fashion forward edge.

What do you love about capturing special events?

I love going out to shoot a wedding or event with no script in hand and coming home with a handful of creative shots that even surprised me — that is always my best feeling of accomplishment

We appreciate the passion and creativity this photographer brings to his clients, ensuring their comfort while he beautifully captures their meaningful moments with care and detail.

How would you describe your style?

I am a memory purveyor and an experience creator. I believe our memories are our most treasured possessions. My superpower is capturing the most powerful moments of life and transforming them into one-of-a-kind works of art. My art can transport you back in time to an experience to relive all of the emotions of your most incredible moments. My style is an artistic approach of modern photojournalism and timeless, artistic portraiture. I carve bold, dynamic lighting to shape striking, cinematic images that bleed emotion.

What’s your favorite photo you captured in 2018?

I pleaded with a couple for a few more seconds to capture one more photo in their church. I knew they were eager to jump on their party bus but I assured them if they gave me just one moment that I could capture a timeless portrait of them that would last forever. They fortunately trusted me and the image I captured ended up being their favorite photo from the entire day.

What do you love about capturing special events?

Gaining my client’s trust and hearing them say, “Wow! That’s amazing! How did you do that? We look incredible!” is an extraordinarily rewarding part of my job. Perhaps, though, my absolute favorite part of the day is when I am granted the opportunity to sneak away with the newlyweds after the ceremony to capture portraits alone of just the two of them. All that nervous tension is gone and there’s a permanent smile glued to their faces that doesn’t come from me asking them to pose. They’re beaming and when they see the portrait I captured of them it takes them right back to that feeling they had. It’s fireworks.

We adore the way this photographer makes friends of hosts and guests with his attentive, friendly manner to capture authentic moments beautifully.

How would you describe your style?

Clean, crisp, and natural photography blending a contemporary and timeless aesthetic that you can just barely put your finger on. Technical photography aside, connecting as people first is paramount to creating that comfort I trust to translate through the lens.

What do you love about capturing special events?

Without a doubt it’s the love. It is a thrill to share in these milestone experience, but some of the bonds I’ve witnessed between couples is so incredibly moving. I get to preserve time and share life’s experience with truly amazing people — can’t ask for more than that.

These storytellers infer a full narrative with their clever, soulful, artistic images that we can’t get enough of looking at.

How would you describe your style?

Our experience level, coupled with our reputation, provides a tremendous amount of peace of mind for discerning couples. KingenSmith couples want authentic photographs that aren’t contrived, but instead are emotional, artful and elegant. They also want a fun and stress-free experience. We are very sensitive to how our couples are feeling and how it will affect their wedding day experience and memories.

What do you love about capturing special events?

The best part of what we do is getting to know our couples. We become part of their inner circle, understand their connections, and hone in on what matters most. Being emotionally connected is the foundation of our creative process. We believe one must first feel, and then see, to be able to interpret.

We appreciate the way this team eschews gimmicks like props and poses for authenticity — the realness shows in the images.

How would you describe your style?

Our style is a blend of photojournalistic, classic portrait and artistic, fashion-inspired images. The blend of doing all of these well makes us unique.

What’s your favorite photo you captured in 2018?

Here’s one of our favorite images of 2018. It always makes me smile because it has romance, drama, and elegance all in one image. The city lights feel like champagne bubbles and, of course, her dress is divine. It’s what we strive for and believe in — art & emotion.

We appreciate the fashion-influenced, editorial style of this photographer’s perfectly lush, vivid images.

How would you describe your style?

Creative. Fashion Forward. Wonderfully Timeless.

What’s your favorite photo of 2018?

As photographers, sometimes you have a photo in the back of your mind. I regularly shoot weddings at the Langham Chicago, and wanted to take this photo with the Chicago Theatre in the background for a few years. Finally had the perfect client in a perfect moment for a gorgeous shot!

We love the lush, vivid hues this photographers captures for dreamy images depicting special moments.

How would you describe your style?

I take a two-pronged approach to the day. I have a passion for capturing candid moments in a documentary style, shooting them as they unfold throughout the preparations, ceremony, reception, and those in-between moments. I love to pair this more relaxed and documentary style with timeless and authentic portraits. This blend results in a beautiful collection of the emotional highlights of the day along with photos of themselves, friends and family that they can be proud of for decades to come!

What do you love about capturing special events?

Being invited into the “inner circle” for a wedding day is an enormous privilege and one I don’t take lightly! Being able to capture all of the unique relationships, dynamics, and moments that unfold on a wedding day is a unique — and fun! — occupation that I don’t take for granted. I find that photos of such a key life moment as a wedding only grow in value and meaning for people over time.  Nothing makes me happier than getting an email telling me how a client feels like I truly captured the essence of their wedding day and the personalities of them, their family, and their friends.

We love this photographer’s warm demeanor and genuine curiosity, which makes it easy to relax while she captures the real story that’s unfolding.

How would you describe your style?

I combine the storytelling elements of photojournalism with the curated beauty of an editorial eye. In doing so, we capture not only what this once-in-a-lifetime event looked like, but more importantly, allow future generations to see what it felt like to be there with you.

What do you love about capturing special events?

Events bring people together, and that is what I love most about photographing them. When else are your childhood best friends on the dance floor with your college mentor? What other time in your life will your grandma be sharing a drink with your closest co-worker? There is something incredibly special about witnessing a person’s entire life (and the relationships that make up that life) all come together in one room. It’s a huge responsibility and a great honor.

We adore how this responsive and open this team is — really listening and connecting with subjects to capture their essence.

How would you describe your style?

Rick Aguilar Studios is a boutique photography studio in Chicago for over 14 years. We specialize in gorgeous photography for clients that are looking for a creative look for their event. Whether it’s fashion-inspired, journalistic or stunning traditional photographs we make sure the client gets exactly what they are looking for.

What’s your favorite photo you captured in 2018?

This is one of my favorite photos from last year. It was taken upstate New York and as we approached the area on the top of the mountain it was covered by clouds, so magical.

This photographer’s flexibility allows for any type of event to be captured in the way that best fits the mood; we love her intimate wedding and fun, energetic corporate party images.

How would you describe your style?

My event photography is reportage style. By which I mean, mostly candid with some elements of posed photographs. I love the candid activities at events and really getting to watch special moments unfold in front of me. At events it’s also important to get portraits of the key people, but often they are taken rather quickly, which allows people to be more in the moment.

What do you love about capturing special events?

I love events, and all the elements that come together, but when the music is pumping — I’m like a moth to light. I’m totally drawn to it and can’t stop! You’ll always see me with a smile on the dance floor!

Some of the most fun events to talk about are parties which include celebrities or name talent such as Maroon 5, Keith Urban, and Stevie Wonder.
