The event team at Calder Clark executed this stunning wedding at Old Edwards Inn and Spa in Highlands, North Carolina. After scouting all over the Northeast and Southeast for the perfect spot for the bride and groom, Sarah and Dave, they selected The Old Edwards Inn, a gorgeous venue surrounded by scenic views, waterfalls and verdant Nantahala National Forest land. “Since green is one of the most classic, versatile, and forgiving colors to use as a foundation for a wedding palette; shades of kelly, emerald, olive, and bottle green worked perfectly with a cappuccino-like taupe we used throughout the stationery suite and the tabletop,” said Calder Clark. After a stately ceremony in the garden, cocktails took place in the apple orchard. Guests then made their way into the barn for more cocktails, where custom aged gray barn wood bars flanked statuesque floral pieces. Servers clad in forest green and crisp white welcomed guests into the Pavilion for the seated dinner and dancing.
The Pavilion was full of salvaged stone, which runs to risk of appearing cold in an event setting. So, the Calder Clark team designed and had Blossoms Events construct a 60’ wide x 10’ high wall of fresh boxwood and creeping fig, then tapped Technical Event Company to flood it with tiny micro white lights, which resulted in a beautiful backdrop. Soft round guest tables were dressed in moss-colored silk and topped with neoclassical driftwood planters filled with mountain foliage and ferns. The estate table hosted the wedding party, and Calder Clark used antique French farm tables topped with Dave’s family’s Scottish plaid, vintage equestrian trophies, abundant blooms and beeswax tapers.
In lieu of a wedding cake, the couple opted for a dessert bar with old-fashioned Southern favorites like blueberry crumble and apple pie. The Calder Clark team styled these in antique pie safes and on zinc cake stands for a barn-centric look. In lieu of a traditional guest book there were towering greenery topiaries in custom green chippendale-style planters, complete beautiful lithographed tags which were pinned to the topiaries. Guests came along at their leisure and penned sweet notes to the newlyweds, then hung them in the topiary trees throughout the evening.
