PartySlate’s Top Events of July 2019
by Pamela Rothbard, Editor
July has been a month rich with gorgeous event uploads, and assembling this list has been a bit of a challenge, but here we are — the top 10 events of July 2019. They include a birthday party with an unexpected luxurious goody in its claw machine, a Sangeet with a stunning installation made from an everyday item, and a boho wedding that featured bridesmaids carrying large brass tasseled rings instead of bouquets.
Pass the Pampas, Please
When it comes to trends we’re loving here at PartySlate, pampas grass has to top the list. The flowering plant has gone from one of the few hardy botanicals that can survive arid regions to the darling of 2019’s most luxurious celebrations. This unique wedding at Montage Los Cabos featured a silver geometric igloo altar (view here) within which the couple said “I do” before celebrating at a reception with centerpieces, ceiling installations, and pillar décor — all rich with our favorite pampas grass. The resulting vibe at the celebration from Mindy Weiss Party Consultants is one of chic desert-evoking neutrals and we can’t get enough.
That’s So Gucci
What has a floral Ferris wheel, branded burgers, and a claw machine for guests to vie for Gucci swag? This over-the-top fun birthday party from Aliana Events! Partygoers celebrating “baby G” could have their caricature sketched or snap pics in a plane prop inside the towering space in Santa Monica’s Cayton Children’s Museum. Blueprint Studios provided tables and chairs and more in a rainbow of hues, creating a vibrant vibe. When guests weren’t bobbing for baubles or snacking on caviar, they were likely getting a customized boogie board on which to enjoy the California beach.
Roses are Red, This Mitzvah is Too
We clamour to review newly-uploaded Bar and Bat Mitzvah celebrations, because the theming is always so detailed and creative. This “red hot” Bar Mitzvah from Amy Katz Events is no exception — expressing its deeply-hued theme with red uplighting and logoed scarlett napkins from EAF Fine Papers, pillows, and even a basketball court. We love how the design team from Diana Gould Ltd mixed the glamour with the gritty here, curating a vision of draped crystals and candlelight alongside a chain-link fence ball court.
Bohemian Rhapsody
This boho-chic ceremony from LRE Catering — who planned the celebration as well as catered it — features one beautifully-surprising element after another. A beautiful mandarin orange and gold painted screen acted as the vow backdrop, and bridesmaids carried unique large brass rings woven with greenery and tassels, evocative of dreamcatchers, instead of bouquets (view here). Even the outdoor lounge areas were inspired, with luxe velvet seating from The Wild Ones on Asian rugs from Bright Event Rentals against beautiful string art and bright printed silks. We love how the couple’s free-spirited sensibility is woven into every part of this celebration.
Come On Get (Skin) Happy
X7 exeven Events took fresh inspiration for this Aveeno product launch of Skin Happy, the skincare brand’s newest campaign. To emphasize the moisturizer’s quenching qualities, the décor team from The Lounge Design Miami floated crisp white Aveeno logos in a fountain and placed samples on tabletops at The Confidante Miami Beach space. Our favorite element, though, is the picture-perfect branded backdrop featuring white wood slats outfitted with fresh plants and the brand name spelled out in bright green moss.
Art & Soul
This art-filled gala, Wall Ball 2019, benefitted Mural Arts Philadelphia, the nation’s largest public art program. The fundraiser, as planned by Eventsful, Inc., featured interactive installations and statement-making pieces as well as the artists themselves. We love how the guest experience created both observers and makers — and dancers, as Urban Guerilla Orchestra and DJ Rashid Zakat took the stage. Fittingly, the lighting at the event, from EBE Lighting and Production, put on a show of its own with a rainbow of hues.
Inspiring “Insta”llation
It’s not easy to evoke a brand without any overt signage, but this inspired design from Wild Club and Foxtail Catering & Events tells a story without words. Designers created a ceiling installation utilizing the iconic ombré of rainbow colors that are familiar to followers of Instagram. We appreciate the way the gorgeous seating and tables from Blueprint Studios rocked a clean, white palette, allowing the other design elements — like clear vases floating colorful candles — to pop. And Paper Tie Affair has us swooning over their florals-under-acryllic menus.
Surprise, surprise
A grand proposal is one thing. A beach ask that includes skydivers wearing custom tees spelling out the question, followed by an elaborate on-the-spot engagement party, is quite another. DESIGNED PERFECTLY EVENTS pulled off both a surprise proposal and a gorgeous celebration for one lucky NFL player. The post-proposal party featured a soft palette of pale pink, white, and green expressed most beautifully in the lantern-lit hedge wall from J. Morris Flowers featuring the neon message: let there be everlasting love that never dissolves. Click here to see how the rose gold elements on the invitation were carried through to the celebration in a beautiful way — and how BBJ Linen outfitted the tables in dreamy beach style.
What’s Black-&-White & Floral All Over?
The Love + Conversation NYC 2019 cocktail party beautifully planned by Guerdy Design was perfectly positioned on Carnegie Hall’s stunning rooftop to enjoy city views while discussing the events industry in the modern metropolis. A super-chic black-and-white palette — which was also adhered to by well-dressed guests — formed the backdrop for a riot of colorful florals from Birch Event & Design. We love the stylish striped bar and floor wrap from Bombshell Graphics (who also provided a stunning large-scale bar wrap for PartySlate’s NYC launch) and how even the food from Constellation Culinary Group managed to look chic.
Somewhere Over the Ribbon Rainbow
Wow-worthy ceiling décor continues to be a strong trend, and we love when designers get creative with the materials they use for an “over the top” installation. We’ve seen Slinkies, paper butterflies, and crystals, but this is the first time we’ve seen ribbons creating a stunning vision like this. Yanni Design Studio conjured this colorful rainbow of ribbons for one lucky couple’s Sangeet at Belvedere Events & Banquets. View the full event to see how the couple used custom neon signage and ornate umbrellas for the perfect photo op.
