The White House State Dinner Shines with the Latest Trends
President and Mrs. Obama hosted their final State Dinner Tuesday evening, and the celebration followed suit with the glamorous influence of their eight years in office. The celebration honored Italy, with the guest of honor Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and his wife, Agnese Landini, so naturally, the Italian “fresco” theme was translated throughout the evening.
From Mrs. Obama’s custom rose gold gown designed by Atelier Versace to the twinkling chandeliers that dazzled the tent for 400 guests on the South Lawn, the celebration glittered with gold.
Paying homage to the style of their administration and the fashion-forward Italian culture, the tablescapes were showstoppers. A mix of mirrored-top tables, textured champagne-hued linens and gold linens dressed the tables, with blush and gold table appointments to accessorize.
Perhaps the most talked about event professional included in the soiree was celebrity chef, Mario Batali and his four-course America-meets-Italy meal, which included: Agnolotti with butter and sage, warm butternut squash salad, beef braciole with horseradish gremolata, and green apple crostata with thyme caramel for dessert.
The stage, flanked with ivory drapes and soft lighting, held court for talking heads of State, and special performances by Gwen Stefani (and Blake Shelton!).
