For this week’s Tuesday Top 5 — where we pause to marvel and share a specific element, image, or detail from events we love — we’re focused on citrus-infused decor.
Well done event decor is always a feast for the eyes. But we’re seeing a trend that provides a treat for all senses — colorful, fragrant citrus incorporated into design elements at celebrations. Using oranges, lemons, limes and grapefruits as ornamentation offers a fresh, summer vibe. In addition to tucking citrus into bouquets and other arrangements, event designers are integrating cut fruit into artful compositions that provide not only pops of rich pink, orange, green and yellow, but also crisp aromas. We’ve curated some of our favorite citrus-infused decor elements from a chic luncheon, a milestone birthday dinner, and a few gorgeous weddings.
This luncheon was themed for a place famed for their fresh lemons — Capri, Italy — and was hosted for event planners, both of which mean we are in for some stunning citrus-indulgent decor. Premier planner Michelle Durpetti Events perfectly located the stylish midday event at The Estate by Gene and Georgetti. Each table was curated by a different design specialist and the table featured here was conjured by the skilled designers at Erin McDonald Co. Kent Drake Photography captured every little beautiful nuance of the tablescape, from the lime green tablecloth and soft turquoise milk glass vases to the delicate pink roses and, of course, lemons with their greenery attached adding yet more color.
This 80th milestone birthday for a Hermès executive is every bit as chic and over-the-top glamorous as you’d expect it to be for the leader of such an iconic luxury fashion brand. Set in the Palacio de Lebrija in Spain, the dinner fittingly, and beautifully, employed Seville orange blossoms and flowers as decor elements. The seasoned event planners at Le Basque offset the colorful tablescape with custom pure thick Belgian linens in a light greenish gray. The entire space was afire with red and orange lighting tying to the citrus hues.
This incredibly beautiful Tuscan dinner was held in the hillside town of Montalcino at Castello Banfi — a hotel and winery located outside of Siena, Italy. Yellow decor elements and natural olive branches perfectly captured the vibrancy of the region and complemented the ivy-covered walls of this historic estate. Guests were guided to their seats by personalized place cards attached to fresh lemons atop white china. Other creative uses of citrus included sliced lemon wedges added to the floral centerpieces by David Kimmel Designs, which mimicked real lemon trees popular within the Tuscan region. LLG Events created a modern, yet region-specific celebration for this Italian-wedding-weekend-to-remember and Flavio Bandiera Photography captured the fabulous evening.
This summer wedding took a fresh cue from citrus with a sherbert-hued palette of coral, tangerine, lemon and lime. The floral specialists at Cornelia McNamara Flowers infused this dreamy Ivy Room-set celebration with crisp colors and aromas. They incorporated tiny limequats into bouquets and cut whole lemons and oranges into floral arrangements which coordinated perfectly with dinner plate dahlias and other colorful blooms.
Citrus was certainly the shining star at this Paradise Valley, Arizona wedding filled with hues of pink, yellow and orange. The couple made their way down the aisle surrounded by vibrant green fruit branch archways adorned with hanging bird cages filled with lemons, limes, grapefruits and oranges. Guests enjoyed hand-painted macaroons to match the fresh fruit and the bride held an incredible bouquet of flowers by Flower Studio. Amy & Jordan Photography captured the sweet citrus wedding.
