About Deceptive Collective

Founded in 2001

Ryan Oakes is a magician, mentalist and purveyor of mystery. His company, Deceptive Collective, has helped bring magic and mystery to events all over the country... from sales meetings to product launches, from conferences to client dinners. Ryan and his colleagues have consulted for theatrical productions, appeared in numerous television projects, and have created bespoke magical experiences for Fortune 500 companies in almost every industry. Ryan is also one half of the tech magic duo, Digital Deception. The duo combined magic and technology in a live show, as well as a highly-interactive virtual show. Since March 2020 the duo has performed at online meetings and conferences for clients all over the world, including Google, Novo Nordisk, Fidelity Investments, Twilio, Aetna, Pandora, Aflac, and Morgan Stanley.

FAQs 5

How many years have you been in business?
I've been an event professional for over 20 years, serving corporate and private clients all over the US.
Can you cutomize the performance for specific theme or message?
Absolutely! There are a number of routines I present where I can incorporate a meeting message, a brand, or a celebrant's name. Depending on your event goals and your audience, I can also custom tailor a performance to incorporate sales messaging for meetings and trade shows.
Where are you based?
I make my home in New York City, but I travel frequently for events. I've done everything from a wedding event in St Barts to an executive retreat in Portugal.
How long do you typically perform for?
My stage show can be up to an hour, though I can shorten it for a dinner performance or break it up into pieces if you want it presented throughout a meeting. For close-up/strolling work, it depends on the size of your group and what else might be happening at your event.
Can you make my husband disappear?
No, sorry.
