Opened in October of 2018, Recreation is the latest installment from restauranteur and nightlife operator Jon Neidich of Golden Age Hospitality. Located upstairs at Moxy NYC Downtown Hotel in the Financial District, Recreation is a 5000 sq. ft. communal co-working space by day and a bar by night - serving as the ultimate living room for the neighborhood. The cocktail program—designed by Jim Kearns—showcases one of the most advanced tap cocktail systems in the country. The food menu at Recreation features all-day, evening, and late night dishes from Chef Akhtar Nawab of Alta Calidad. Drawing inspiration from the rec room at your neighbor's house, Recreation also features an old school Arcade Machine with games like Ms. Pacman and a half court-sized basketball court– designed to host events or just play ball. The only truly private event space in Recreation, the “Flex Space,” is a fully functioning half-basketball court with floor to ceiling windows, an authentic retro gym floors imported from a Midwestern high school, a state-of-the-art projector, foosball, and optional ping pong table. Chef James Kent's first solo project – two restaurant concepts in the landmark building 70 Pine Street –spans five stories including the Art Deco building’s 66th floor, a former observation deck. The two private salons on the 62nd floor can be reserved privately or combined. SAGA (2 Michelin Star restaurant) features two floors dedicated to private dining, each with windows that frame views of the city skyline and Brooklyn Bridge. The rooms range in size, accommodating business dinners and board meetings, wedding receptions, film productions, and media events. In addition to the dedicated private dining rooms, both SAGA and Overstory– SAGA's cocktail bar with a wraparound terrace–are available for partial evening and full buyouts. The terraces has full bar service in the summer for elegant parties in the daylight and heated seating across the terraces for chilly summer evenings. The most coveted PDR of the NYC is the jewel box almost entirely made of glass overhanging on the 64th floor - off the SAGA kitchen where Kent and his team are seen presenting the dishes. Our space Our dining room’s design is inspired by Lebanon in the 60s; pale ash wood contrasts with custom-pressed teal tiles, an abundance of plants, floor to ceiling windows on three sides. Retractable glass doors divide our dining room from our seasonal terrace which sprawls out over the East River and the Brooklyn Bridge Park. The space is surrounded by a lush planter which features a bounty of herbs, grasses, and small flowering plants from the North-East. It’s a gorgeous space for an on-site ceremony or cocktail hour, and it’s part of any private event held here. Our cuisine Beyond our physical space, our emphasis is on excellent food and warm, gracious hospitality. We want you and your guests to feel completely at ease from the moment you walk through our doors. Our menus take inspiration from the Mediterranean coastline, and we offer both buffet and family-style options. Our wine list features natural wines from the coastal Mediterranean region. Our cocktail menu highlights delicious riffs on classic drinks (think G&T’s with Turmeric and Lemongrass) and beers from local producers like Other Half and Folksbier. Our pricing We use a flat-fee structure, similar to an event minimum spend. This pricing is designed to cover almost everything, and includes food and beverage for up to 70 guests seated or 85 standing during peak season. While you are totally welcome to look into additional decor details, everything that is used for service is included in your private event. This covers the basics like glassware, plates, flatware, and napkins, but it also covers use of our votive candles, bud vases, table numbers, cake stand, easels, etc. We're also happy to create and print personalized menus for your event in-house. Evening events are typically 6pm - 11pm and daytime events are typically held from 11am - 3pm. New York sales tax, gratuity, and a 5% administrative fee are applied to event subtotals.
