We feel that street food is the gastronomic essence of a city's culture here at Gadabout. Rolf and Meagan Pedersen, who run the restaurant, draw inspiration from all over the world to make upgraded, non-traditional street food. The essence of our cuisine, which reflects a careful convergence of cultures, a celebration of Chicago's rich diversity, and a sense of approachable adventure, is the word "gadabout," which means a regular, pleasure-seeking global traveler. Through the use of robust flavors and local products, our food attempts to generate a sense of lighthearted nostalgia. The cocktail menu features small-batch spirits in vivid drinks, as well as a variety of vintage sodas. Our goal is to create a dynamic list of sustainable practices at our restaurant and in the community as a whole. To reduce our carbon footprint and give you the greatest and freshest products available, we acquire produce and proteins from local farms whenever possible. We’re lucky enough to have a great space available for parties of any size - up to a hundred people. MAD Social is a neighborhood kitchen & gathering place in the heart of the West Loop. The elevated yet approachable venue space features a rustic, industrial chic interior, which provides the perfect backdrop for eclectic shareable plates & creative cocktails. MAD Social is available for full buy out, and their event menus and packages are customizable. Adolfo Garcia oversaw the design of MAD Social and has kept it true to its warehouse roots, while bringing a French industrial chic feel to the space. An intimate and refined place, MAD Social has 65 seats in the dining room, 12 at the bar and will offer outdoor seating in the patio space during warmer months. In keeping with the industrial past of the West Loop neighborhood, Garcia used “1900’s warehouse” as a design inspiration. He utilized the natural elements in the space, like the original timber ceilings and hardwood flooring. Leftover wood from the buildout was reclaimed and re-used. Guests will see it incorporated throughout MAD Social's dining room from the table tops to focal point art pieces, including a jigsaw-esque design on the front of the bar and an oversized wooden mosaic piece on the east wall.

The Space The restaurant’s expansive layout, designed by Thomas Schlesser, incorporates strong architectural lines and rustic décor, reflective of The Publican’s farmhouse cuisine. Its spacious interior is dominated by large walnut communal tables designed to recall 16th Century European banquets. Set up in racetrack fashion, the banquet tables seat upwards of 130 people with views of the partially open kitchen. This design lends itself as the perfect location for any Chicago wedding. The minimal use of walnut and brass provides the perfect accent to whatever colors, theme and floral you have imagined. The expansive room is built for joyous celebrations and unions of all races, religions, countries of origin, sexual orientations and genders. The Publican hosts private and semi-private events for social and corporate groups as small as 10 and as large as 175. The space is available for private lunches Monday through Friday. It is also available for full evening buyouts 7 nights a week and brunch buyouts on Saturday and Sunday.
