Micaela Almonester, the Baroness de Pontalba, was born in New Orleans in 1795 to aristocratic families of French-Creole and Spanish descent. She inherited her father's fortune when she was a little child, as he was the only living heir. Her father, Andrés Almonester y Rojas, had been a prominent donor to the city of New Orleans through his humanitarian efforts. She was arranged to marry Joseph-Xavier Célestin Delfau de Pontalba, and the couple finally settled in Paris, where she lived for the majority of her life after their marriage. Her husband and father-in-law re-established power over her and her estate by coercive means. Her father-in-law, driven by an insatiable desire for Micaela's money, attempted to murder her several years after the initial attempt. While she survived with injuries to her hand and breast, she also attempted to legally separate herself from her husband, despite the fact that they were never actually divorced. Her father's legacy as a key contribution to New Orleans as a businesswoman, developer, and well-known personality was carried on by the Baroness. Her father's legacy as a key contribution to New Orleans as a businesswoman, developer, and well-known personality was carried on by the Baroness. She made significant contributions to the revitalization of the French quarter, most notably through the creation of the historic Pontalba Buildings. She was in charge of the architectural design of the structures, as well as the construction of them, which she oversaw closely. Construction of this ancient brick building began in 1835 and served as the Baroness' warehouse, where she kept her furniture and other belongings safe and secure.

In addition, he used travertine floors. Before it was converted into apartments, this structure was home to a variety of professional offices as well as one of the largest banks in the South for almost 90 years. The interior of the bank lobby was designed to convey an air of majesty and scale that is unequaled by any other location in the city. St. James Cheese Company is the perfect setting for private wine and cheese tastings, happy hours, rehearsal dinners, baby and bridal showers, weddings, and more. Cheese, cheese, charcuterie, and more cheese, please. Sandwiches, salads, and even more cheese are all on the menu. Mission The purpose of our business is to present our clients with a precisely picked and unexpectedly broad range of wonderfully mature cheeses, charcuterie, and gourmet food products. Our menu has been carefully crafted to include sandwiches, salads, and cheese-centric dishes that are both contemporary and European in style, in order to appeal to a wide range of food enthusiasts. What it Is and How it Works We know people who know people who know people who know people who know people. The best method to obtain the farmhouse cheeses we are wild about is to identify the people who love creating them as much as we do about selling them. We found this out a long time ago and have been using it ever since. We've established an international network of cheese makers and affineurs who supply us with the artisan and farmhouse cheeses that are not available in other shops in the United States. What to Expect When You Arrive We operate on the premise that cheese should be enjoyable, and we strive to make each and every visit to our shop unique and memorable. There are areas for the cheese novice, the rind smelling expert, and the curd curious to explore. These are the folks who work for us. St James cheesemongers and guests are urged to sample every cheese available on a daily basis in order to guarantee that each cheese is served at its best.

Host your next corporate event amidst an ambiance of art and sophistication, within a setting that was once housed in the Eiffel Tower in Paris. EIFFEL SOCIETY is the perfect New Orleans events venue for your next personal or company party. The English Turn is named after one of the most unlikely events that could occur in North America. Inevitably, the bluffing of an experienced English Captain by a 19-year-old with a Native guide changed the course of history. The French had been in the area (now known as New Orleans) for approximately 20 years, scouting for high ground and figuring out the lay of the land. Iberville and Bienville were two brothers from the Le Moyne family who had been in Canada fighting the English and proving their worth to King Louis XIV. They had been in Canada fighting the English and proving their worth to King Louis XIV when they were captured by the English. In the hope of discovering the Mississippi River's mouth, Iberville and Bienville set out from Quebec for New France-Louisiana, where they eventually arrived. The Iroquois and other indigenous tribes in the area were pleased with their arrival, and they made peace with them. This brought about a sense of tranquility in the area, which was beneficial to New France. A native guide paddled alongside Jean Baptiste (then 19 years old) on a canoe, scouting the area and attempting to understand the river and how it influenced the land and environment. They were taken completely by surprise when they turned the bend in the river and came upon an English Corvette (war ship), which was armed with ten guns on either side. Jean Baptiste and his guide rowed alongside the ship and had a conversation with the ship's captain, who was from England. Upon further investigation, he discovered that this captain was once a Prisoner of Pierre who had served in Canada and New England. A French Frigate, complete with 20 guns on each side, was just upriver, Jean Baptiste persuaded the Captain during this period of relative calm. They might want to retreat to their Caribbean colonies for their own safety. Upriver, there were a few squalid huts and tents, as well as a few guns and knives, but nothing more. As a result of his convincing the English Captain that Jean Baptiste was as honorable as his brother, the ship was turned around. Because of this, this bend in the river is referred to as the English Turn.
