Merchants Cigar Bar, which opened in 1996, is a modern lounge with a midcentury design that takes visitors back in time. True to the era of the opulent Havana High Life, indoor smoking is permitted, fresh ingredients are used in cocktails, and music is played until the wee hours of the morning. The architecture and furnishings in merchants are appealing and genuine; every component is a fresh take on traditional design. Visitors descend a beautiful mahogany paneled staircase that is accented with brass, illuminated by diffused light, and features floor to ceiling bronze mirrors. Upon entering the lounge, visitors are greeted to the right by an opulent handcrafted brass bar, while couples and bigger groups are welcomed to the left by quaint tables and custom leather booths. Handmade Calico Wallpaper and lighting pieces from Triple Seven and Soho House are used to decorate the room. Our stunning formal dining and entertainment room, which was built by the King Family in 1810, is part of the final enlargement that was added to the home to create the structure that is now known as King Manor. There are genuine Federal Period design components in the space, which were meant to produce a warm, bright environment in an era before electric lights, as well as great natural acoustics for music performance. Meetings, tiny wedding ceremonies, book readings, recitals, and other small private events are all possible in this space. However, while food and liquids are not permitted in our period rooms, we do have a large foyer where light snacks and drinks can be offered, as well as access to the backyard if needed. A more informal private space, our North Kitchen is ideal for off-site meetings, classroom sessions, a bridal party dressing room or storage space while your event is taking place. Within a New York City park, King Manor offers a huge backyard space that can accommodate renting tents up to 30 by 40 feet in size, making it ideal for larger occasions. Our venue is private and secure, making it an ideal setting for events such as weddings, board retreats, cocktail hours, and other gatherings.
