The Woodlea Clubhouse was once a Vanderbilt Mansion that was constructed in 1892 and held by Colonel Elliot Fitch Shephard. Colonel Shephard was the founder of the New York Bar Association as well as the proprietor of the journal Mail and Express. 1910 saw the purchase of the mansion by Frank Vanderlip and William Rockefeller. The Planetarium’s GeminiStar III system – which includes a Konica Minolta Infinium-L star projector, full-dome video and surround-sound – offers audiences a spectacular immersive experience. This modern–designed Planetarium features comfortable graduated seating under a 60-foot dome, providing a superb venue for a hosted event, custom planetarium shows narrated by one of the Museum’s astronomers, corporate presentations, performances, lectures and seminars.
