Once a working sheep and cattle operation, its hay fields and gardens still draw deer, antelope, and birds, and Head Wrangler Jerry Kinkade has run the lodge as a western-themed bed and breakfast since the early 1980s, with rooms built around vintage wagons converted into queen beds. Built in 1924 to replace the original Union Pacific depot and hotel that burned in 1917, the building served as Laramie's passenger depot until 1971 and as an Amtrak stop until 1983. Today it doubles as a railroad museum, with a Craftsman-style ceiling preserved from its original construction, and the surrounding city park — home to Railroad Heritage Park's steam engine, snowplow, bunk car, and caboose — can be reserved separately through the City of Laramie's Parks Department.
