Johnson, founder of the Palmolive Soap Company, first sought refuge from Wisconsin winters here. The current Mediterranean-style mansion was built beginning in 1922, and in 1966 it was transformed into the private Club Continental — a members' club that has hosted events ever since. The grounds reflect the estate's century of history: 300-year-old Live Oaks draped in Spanish moss, formal gardens with original 1920s fountains and tiles, three swimming pools, and a sweeping riverfront lawn with a stone balustrade overlooking the water.
