During your stay at the Lord Thompson Manor, we will provide you and your guests with a private environment in which you can use the Manor and Cottage House for your Rehearsal Dinner, Late Night Gathering, Spa Treatment, Wedding Reception, After Party, and Farewell Breakfast over the weekend. In order to make each of these Wedding weekend events truly extraordinary, we believe that four key elements must be present: food, staff, on-site planning and coordination, and romance. When it comes to a wedding reception at the Lord Thompson Manor, the flow is designed to create a party atmosphere rather than a traditional "sit-down" reception style. Starting with a Champagne toast, which is typically held on our Side Garden Balcony following your ceremony, your reception will get underway! Following the toast, cocktails and passed hors d'oeuvres are served throughout the Manor, encouraging your guests to mingle and explore the grounds of the estate. Your guests will be seated in the Dining Rooms for a dinner that will include our Chef's Duo Entree Plate. After only about an hour, we begin the first dance, Cake Cutting, or any other formalities you wish to include, in order to get your guests up and out of their dining tables and into the Conservatory for the reception. For the remainder of the Reception, the Music takes it away from you. Cake, coffee, and dessert are served at Stations, eliminating the need for your guests to return to their formal tables after the meal is finished. Your guests will be active participants throughout the evening rather than passive observers at their tables, which is exactly how we like our parties.

Our Renaissance Room will accommodate a variety of guests from a simple luncheon to a formal banquet. Its antique finishes are complemented by polished cherry and rich mahogany. The Smith Farm property was originally purchased in 1718 by Matthew Smith. The home was constructed in 1778, the land used as a small family farm until the early 1900s. Over the years, the house was neglected, falling into disrepair. In 1985, Malcolm and Peggy Winkley purchased the property, intent on providing a healthy, country environment for their family of five active, growing children. Whether a family reunion, birthday party, shower, anniversary, corporate event or any other special gathering, we offer the perfect unique historical backdrop. We are known for our meticulous attention to detail in our service and our decor. A sailcloth tent is always available for use. In keeping with our traditional appeal, our modern bathroom trailer covered in barn board suggests an earlier era outhouse. Play lawn games, have a picnic and at the end of a fun filled day, a toasted s’more at our fire pit is a must! The farm house is also available to rent for the day or take advantage of the overnights option and extend your stay.

Adventure is a beautifully restored 62-foot classic riverboat available for private charter on the Connecticut River, operating out of Deep River, Connecticut. The vessel accommodates 4 to 40 guests and is well suited for intimate weddings, rehearsal dinners, corporate outings, birthday and anniversary celebrations, showers, reunions, and a range of other private gatherings. The main deck features custom woodwork, a bar, galley, and many windows, while the upper deck offers open-air seating with a canvas top and sides, festive lighting, and 360-degree river views. Both decks are equipped with a sound system, microphones, and Bluetooth music capability. Chef-created catering menus and full premium bar packages are available to accompany each cruise. Private charters run from 2 to 4 hours and depart seasonally between June and October. The surrounding lower Connecticut River has been recognized by The Nature Conservancy as one of the Last Great Places, giving guests a distinctive backdrop of undisturbed river scenery throughout their event.

Originally built as a single-family residence by the prominent Welles family, the property later served as an inn for shipbuilders working along the Connecticut River. Owners Corrine Crocker — a wedding planner since 1990 — and William Luby purchased the house in 2007 and completed a meticulous renovation between 2009 and 2013, preserving the original framing timbers and handcrafted staircase while rebuilding the interior with modern systems, including a geo-thermal heating and cooling system throughout its 6,000 square feet. The venue balances historic character with modern comfort across its first-floor gathering spaces — a front parlor entrance, an open dining room with capacity for up to 75 seated guests, and The Village Room for boutique celebrations — as well as a second-floor bridal suite. A riverfront ceremony location on the property accommodates outdoor ceremonies, with optional horse-drawn carriage access. This historic building makes for a great site for a wedding. The staff will help to coordinate all aspects of the wedding from entertainment to food to the ceremony. The barn is open April through November and will make for a memorable and unique day. The maximum rental time of the barn is six hours, which is a reasonable length for a wedding. It is also extremely affordable which makes it a desirable place to host a modest wedding. The seating in the barn is limited to 135 people, but you can provide additional tables and chairs if necessary to accommodate all of your guests.
