The Kankakee Valley Park District has served the Kankakee area since 1925, operating more than 36 parks, recreational facilities, and event spaces across Aroma Park and Kankakee Townships in Illinois. The district maintains a diverse portfolio of rentable venues — from the Bill Spriggs Civic Auditorium at Gov. Small Memorial Park to the Charlton Room at the Rec Center — accommodating events ranging from intimate gatherings to larger receptions and community celebrations. The Charlton Room, located inside the Rec Center at 150 N. Indiana Ave. in downtown Kankakee, seats up to 150 guests banquet-style and up to 200 in theater-style arrangement, and includes a full-use kitchen. The Bill Spriggs Civic Auditorium features a stage, an outdoor patio, and open outdoor space. The district also offers additional park fieldhouses, pavilions, and riverfront settings through parks such as Bird Park, Goselin Park, and Pioneer Park. Manteno Golf Club and Learning Center is an 18-hole golf course and event facility in Manteno, Illinois, offering a 7,000-square-foot clubhouse banquet facility for weddings, receptions, and private dining functions. The surrounding property includes a Learning Center practice range, two practice greens, and a Golf Shop, giving the venue a well-rounded campus feel. The Banquet Room accommodates up to 180 seated guests, with additional overflow seating available in the restaurant and on the veranda. Camp Shaw-waw-nas-see is a non-profit overnight camp set on 110 acres in Manteno, Illinois, with more than 75 years of history hosting youth programs and outdoor gatherings. The natural grounds — open fields, wooded areas, a creek, and a waterfall — make it an unconventional but memorable backdrop for weddings and private celebrations. The wedding package encompasses the upper campgrounds, the bowl area, the Dining Hall, and the upper camp pavilion, accommodating up to 200 guests. Two dressing rooms are available for the wedding party, and up to five hours of portering service is included for moving equipment and décor across the property. A campfire can be arranged on request. The package includes dedicated time the day before for setup and rehearsal and the day after for takedown, with full access from 8 AM to 10 PM on the wedding day. Food must arrive ready to serve, as no kitchen or in-house catering is available. Alcohol may be served by a licensed bartender.
