Whitehall Plantation
100 Central Ave, Jefferson, LA 70121, USA- Spaces for 100-150 Guests
- 1 Barn
- 1 Farm
Whitehall Plantation, which was established in 1857 for Francois Pascalis de la Barre and his family and operated as a sugar plantation until 1891, was the first of its kind in the United States. At the time, the plantation encompassed 8,000 acres that stretched from the Mississippi River to Lake Pontchartrain in southern Louisiana. According to historical records, life at Whitehall Plantation was filled with joy and celebration. Other plantation owners, their families, and friends were invited to enjoy Christmas Eve on the plantation, which made for a particularly joyous holiday season in general. The women donned their old-fashioned dresses and danced to Chopin's Minuet in G and Strauss' Vienna Woods with the males of their choosing to the tunes of Chopin's Minuet and Strauss' Vienna Woods. Because of its near proximity to New Orleans and its link to a dirt road known as Labarre Road, the property was chosen to serve as the headquarters for Union General Morgan during the Civil War. The grounds were transformed into a gambling casino in 1919, with dancing to the sounds of well-known orchestras taking place on the premises. A magnificent restaurant had been added to the manor's offerings. The meals were exquisite, the music was excellent, and, if Lady Luck was on your side, your travel back home was enjoyable as well. Magnolia Community Services now has access to Whitehall Plantation's gorgeous scenery, which is maintained by the plantation. Magnolia School, founded in 1935 by Dr. Charles Bloom, was born out of a need for specialized instruction for children and adolescents who were experiencing intellectual and developmental issues. Dr. Charles Bloom wanted to provide for his son, but he quickly learned that there were little resources available to satisfy his son's demands. As a result, Dr. Charles Bloom organized a group of businesspeople to hunt for land on which to build a school for his son. The Magnolia School was founded by private contributions and now runs as a private 501 c3 non-profit organization in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. With the knowledge that a portion of the rental price for Whitehall Plantation is donated to this deserving organization, you can feel good about yourself. We will work with you to create a wedding experience that is as special as your love for one another. For years to come, a Whitehall Plantation wedding will be remembered not just for the scenic settings, which include moss-hung oak trees and the grand staircase entry to the magnificent home, but also for the flavor, flair and attention to detail that we put into each and every event.

As time went on, renovations were made, menus were created, and the website and social media platforms were established, resulting in the polished jewel that is The Alexander Room and Terrace. The Alexander Room has an inside size of 5000 square feet and a terrace with an additional 4000 square feet of space on the second level. Thanks to the recent addition of our outdoor speakers and festoon lights, you'll be able to dance under the stars without losing a beat. Ormond Plantation Manor
13786 River Rd, Destrehan, LA 70047, USA- Spaces for 150 Guests
- 1 Country Club
Despite its unique nature and often tragic history, Ormond Plantation has managed to endure until the early twenty-first century. As early as the 1780s, Pierre D'Trepagnier was granted a parcel of property by the Spanish Governor Don Bernanrdo deGalvez, who named it after himself. The main building, which was erected shortly before 1790, served as the plantation's headquarters for indigo and later sugar cane production. Built in the "Louisiana Colonial" style for plantations, which was inspired by the enormous sugar estates of the West Indies, the home is a beautiful example of architecture. The two wings, or garconnieres, that give Ormond its unique appearance are taller than the main building and of a design that may have been influenced by the Atlantic Seaboard, according to some sources. This was a common occurrence as officials from the Louisiana and Spanish governments were entertained in the mansion. Colonel Richard Butler purchased Mrs. D'Trepagnier's plantation home in 1805 for a sum of money. Butler had served in the United States Army and had fallen in love with the South during his time there. In honor of his family castle in Ireland, the Castle Ormonde, he gave his new home the name "Ormond." Following the War Between the States, Ormond Plantation, like many other Southern plantations, was forced to close its doors. It changed hands twice more before being sold at public auction in 1874 and 1875, according to historical records. State Senator Basile LaPlace, Jr., son of the prominent New Orleans pharmacist and landowner after whom the town of LaPlace is named, purchased Ormond on December 1, 1898, for a sum of $25,000.00. LaPlace died in a horrific fashion. In the following years, Ormond moved from LaPlace's widow to his mother, and then to the Schexnayder family, all of which occurred during the year 1900. The Schexnayders retained ownership of the property until 1926, when they transferred ownership to the Inter-Credit Corporation of New York. Between the late 1920s and early 1930s, a variety of tenants lived in the house and on the grounds surrounding the house. The house had been left to decay, and the walls were collapsing and the porch was sagging. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Brown, proprietors of the Brown's Velvet Dairy in New Orleans, purchased the property for a sum of money. Beginning in 1943, the Browns embarked on a significant renovation project that involved enclosing the carriageways and incorporating the garconnieres into the main structure of the house. Indoor plumbing, natural gas, and electricity were among the modern luxuries that the Browns installed.

Le Musée de f.p.c.
2336 Esplanade Ave, New Orleans, LA 70119, USA- Spaces for 75-200 Guests
- 1 Event Space
Le Musée, the Greek Revival residence at 2336 Esplanade Avenue, and its vicinity, centered in the area known as upper Treme, were originally part of the plantation of Domingo Fleitas. Fleitas, a Spanish colonial who had fought with Galvez in the American Revolution, had grandchildren born free people of color. This stretch of Esplanade Avenue, mid-way between the Mississippi River and Bayou St. John, was not developed until the 1850s when Benjamin Rodriguez, a Jewish speculator who also owned the Esplanade omnibus, began acquiring lots in the area. Rodriguez first built his home at 2306 Esplanade, where the Musson family later lived for a period of time and their cousin Edgar Degas, the acclaimed French artist, visited. In 1859, Rodriguez contracted with Joseph Jouet, the same builder who constructed the famed French Hospital, to build the house at 2336. Though this residence was never owned by persons of color until its present ones, because of their dominance in the building trades, it can be assumed that they participated in the construction. Esplanade Avenue has always been noted for its gracious homes and abundant greenery. Little known is that free people of color owned numerous properties along the avenue and its intersecting streets in the antebellum period
