Needham Golf Club is a private, member-owned club incorporated in 1923 and set on nearly 50 acres of town land in Needham, Massachusetts. The course was designed by Wayne Stiles — a disciple of Donald Ross — and first opened for play in 1901. The current clubhouse, completed in 2011, offers a comfortable setting with a grill room and a covered deck overlooking the first and ninth holes. The club's Function Room accommodates up to 150 guests for events ranging from weddings and Bar and Bat Mitzvahs to corporate retreats and milestone celebrations, with a dance floor available for events that call for it. A smaller Grill Room seats up to 20 guests for more intimate gatherings. An in-house chef and professional food and beverage team handle all catering, with custom menus developed for each event. Potowomut Golf Club has been a fixture of Rhode Island golf since 1927, when a group of golfers built a private course on rolling terrain near Narragansett Bay, in the Potowomut section of Warwick. The 18-hole, par-71 course was designed by Walter Johnson, a disciple of architect Donald Ross, and has been carefully restored over the decades while staying true to its founding character: small, fast greens and a walking tradition that rewards strategy over length. While membership defines daily play at Potowomut, the club opens its course and clubhouse to non-members for weddings, corporate golf outings, and private celebrations. Golf outings get full course access with shotgun starts or tee times, practice facilities, and professional starter and ranger support, while receptions and dinners move into the clubhouse private dining room and patio, which overlooks the 18th green. The Smith-Appleby House Museum is an 18th-century historic house in Smithfield, Rhode Island, built beginning in 1702 and home to seven generations of the Smith and Appleby families until 1959. The family's line traces back to John Smith, known as 'The Miller,' who emigrated from Massachusetts with Roger Williams in search of religious freedom. Inside, the house preserves soot-stained beams and time-worn hearthstones in its keeping room, decorative lambs tongue woodwork, and a chalk signature left by Hugh Whipple in October 1755. The Historical Society of Smithfield, founded in 1932 by 49 charter members from prominent Rhode Island families, purchased the deteriorating property in 1976 from a descendant of charter member Myra Appleby and restored it through community fundraising and volunteer labor. Today the house serves as the Society's headquarters and museum, preserving local artifacts and Smithfield history for public education. In our work-based social enterprise, youth experience a real job and all that comes with it: a paycheck, a sense of mattering when a team relies on them, feedback and performance reviews, promotions and leadership. More Than Words started as the "book people" and we still are - but we are so much more.
