Caledonia Golf & Fish Club sits on the grounds of a former Lowcountry rice plantation in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, a property that traces back to Scotsman Dr. Robert Nesbit, who named it after the Roman designation for Scotland. At its peak in the mid-1800s, the plantation produced more than 700,000 pounds of rice annually before the plantation house burned in 1931; the current owners acquired the land in 1971 as a hunting and fishing preserve, a tradition that inspired the golf course's design when it opened to the public in 1994. The Peanut Warehouse, located in the heart of Horry County, South Carolina, has a long and illustrious history. It was constructed in 1900 for the purpose of storing tobacco.
