The Robey captures the storied spirit of Chicago: a bustling, ever-changing, big-shouldered town, perched high above the big intersection of Damen, Milwaukee, and North Avenues in an Art Deco masterpiece formerly known as the Northwest Tower—stretching 203 feet tall and the only skyscraper for miles. Our goal from the start was to commemorate this skyscraper's illustrious past while adding a fresh, contemporary viewpoint to our 89 room hotel, which was named after Robey Street, the north-south thoroughfare that would become Damen Avenue. The hotel's rooms, lobby, and roof areas were converted by Belgian design partnership Nicolas Schuybroek Architects and Marc Merckx Interiors after it was originally planned as an office building in 1929 by the firm of Perkins, Chatten, & Hammond. All of The Robey's restaurants, lounges, and rooftop venues are available for private gatherings. The Robey is a unique event environment for private cocktail parties, meetings, get-togethers, workplace celebrations, brunches, and private dinners. Stephanie Izard was born in the city of Chicago in the state of Illinois. She was born and raised in Stamford, Connecticut, and went on to the University of Michigan and Scottsdale Culinary Institute in Arizona before returning to Chicago in 2000 to pursue her culinary profession. She opened her first restaurant, Scylla, in Bucktown in 2004 after working under some of Chicago's best chefs (Jean-Georges Vongerichten at Vong; Sean McClain at Spring; Dale Levitski at La Tache). She had the opportunity to participate on Bravo's Top Chef a few years later, and she won as well as being selected fan favorite. Stephanie met her business partners, Rob and Kevin of BOKA Restaurant Group, and the idea for Girl & the Goat began to take shape. The restaurant debuted in Summer 2010 after great thought and consideration was given to the location in the West Loop. Just a few years later, Stephanie opened Little Goat Diner across the street, followed by Duck Duck Goat on Fulton Market in 2016. Stephanie Izard's Girl & the Goat opened in 2010 as one of the first restaurants on Chicago's iconic Restaurant Row in the West Loop, with the purpose of offering strong, cosmopolitan flavors to our local community (and guests!). Our desire to serve guests like family hasn't changed since then (and neither have our Green Beans), but our seasonal flavors, cocktails, wine, and locally-sourced beer have. Since its debut on December 1, 2010, the "Underground Goat" has hosted a range of unique events ranging from business meetings to engagements and everything in between. Up to 24 people can be seated around one huge table and up to 26 guests can be seated around two tables at the UG. The UG isn't your average private dining room. Your party will be brought downstairs, through the restaurant, and into the Goat's "staff only" areas. You'll find a pleasant, candle-lit space that mirrors the relaxed, rustic vibe of the main dining room once you arrive. It also houses our incredible wine collection and has its own sound and lighting system that can be customized to meet the needs of any occasion.
