The Washington at Historic Yellow Springs occupies a building constructed around 1750 on the grounds of Historic Yellow Springs, a 142-acre living village and arts center in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania. Originally built as a colonial tavern and inn, the building hosted General George Washington in 1777, when he visited soldiers convalescing in the Yellow Springs hospital he had commissioned in the village that year. Over the following centuries it served as a dining facility and dormitory for Civil War orphans, and later as a dining hall and residence for students of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
