New Beginnings Historic Farm is a working farm and event property set in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Rutherfordton, North Carolina, five minutes from Lake Lure and approximately an hour from Asheville. The land traces its history to the early 1900s, when it served as a community hub where locals purchased milk, cheese, and meat; its original proprietors, Dr. Adin and Lilly Rucker, were followed by the Biggerstaff family before John and Sheri Crenshaw purchased the property in 2013 and began restoring it to its agricultural roots. The farm's signature residents are a herd of Scottish Highland cattle — a heritage breed known for its long, wavy coat and calm temperament — alongside Nubian dairy goats and a resident fainting goat. Guests can experience the property through guided hiking tours of the half-mile trail, afternoon tea on the historic farmhouse porch overlooking the pastures, and extended farm stays in the on-site Grain Cottage.
