Furnace Town
3816 Old Furnace Rd, Snow Hill, MD 21863, USA- Spaces for 200 Guests
Furnace Town Historic Site is a restored 19th-century industrial village set on 25 acres along the Nassawango Creek in Snow Hill, Maryland. At its center stands the Nassawango Iron Furnace, which operated from 1828 to 1850 as the engine of a self-contained company town built by the Maryland Iron Company. About 300 people once lived and worked here — miners, blacksmiths, broom makers, coopers, and weavers among them — before the operation closed and the Pocomoke Forest gradually reclaimed the site. Restoration efforts began in the 1960s under the Worcester County Historical Society, and the Furnace Town Foundation was established in 1982 to preserve and interpret the property. Today the site functions as a living history museum and event venue, with historic structures, artisan workshops, and nature trails winding through the surrounding woodland. The grounds are available for wedding rentals, offering couples a backdrop that combines authentic 19th-century architecture with the quiet landscape of Maryland's Eastern Shore.
