Black Leg Ranch is a sixth-generation working ranch homesteaded in 1882, set on rich grasslands 25 miles southeast of Bismarck, North Dakota. The Doan family has operated here continuously across six generations, building a destination where century-old western traditions and a full-service event venue coexist on the same land. The Copper Jewell Barn anchors events at the ranch — a 13,000-square-foot venue opened in 2014 and listed by U.S. News Travel Guide as one of the country's top wedding destinations. Named for second-generation rancher Jewell Doan Sr., the barn preserves the character of the original homestead through custom wagon wheel and barbwire chandeliers, 130-year-old ranch wood, and Soo Line railroad lumber, while offering state-of-the-art surround sound, full climate control, and an in-house micro-brewery. The Grand Lodge — a restored turn-of-the-century Sears and Roebuck mail-order home — handles more intimate gatherings of up to 70 guests. Black Leg Ranch hosts weddings, corporate retreats, and private events, with overnight lodging for up to 30 guests and optional western team-building activities including branding, roping, and ATV exploring.
