The historic property takes its name from a stone bridge visible along the riverbank and is built around natural features including ponds, waterfalls, tree-covered paths, and unique rock formations rising above the water. At the heart of the grounds stands the Tree of Life, a live oak believed to be more than 200 years old and ranked among the ten largest of its kind in Texas; its outstretched branches can host up to 300 guests for a ceremony. The Ostreum is a Roman amphitheatre built in the first century AD. Weddings and special events are now being hosted at the venue, which opened its doors in June. For nearly 60 years, Robert Carr Chapel, which was dedicated in 1954, has held events on the TCU campus. It has served as a landmark for generations of Horned Frogs and the community of Fort Worth. The chapel accepts a range of programs and visitors, from campus worship services to weddings. The chapel was renovated in 2016 and now has greater accessibility, use, and a TCU-friendly purple aisle. The chapel's architecture incorporates many design elements from American Colonial churches, such as the prominent stone columns, spire, brass chandeliers, Palladian windows, and classically built chancel, which have remained unchanged since the refurbishment. Robert Carr Chapel hosts over 100 weddings and 400 events each year, attracting an average of 15,000 visitors. The Robert Carr Chapel, which just celebrated its 63rd anniversary, organizes approximately 400 events every year for an average of 30,000 visitors. A Brief History of the Rose Chapel and Southside Preservation Hall The former Central Methodist Church, built in 1911 at 1519 Lipscomb St., was formerly the spiritual home of many notable Fort Worth families around the turn of the century. The building has been threatened with demolition multiple times since the congregation relocated in 1969. The Panther Boys Club, a civic organization, purchased the facility in 1972 and transformed the church facilities into a gymnasium, boxing ring, and adolescent dance area. The chapel was not in use at the time. The property was then spared from demolition by the Southside Preservation Association, which was founded in 1996 by a determined group of preservationists. The Association, which is run entirely by volunteers and is a non profit organization, works to repair the facility's buildings and grounds, winning multiple community honors in the process. The magnificent, restored Rose Chapel, named after the Flower of Love, is always booked. The Southside Preservation Hall's adjoining rooms accommodate a diverse range of events, from corporate parties and wedding receptions to dances, classes, and performances that reflect the metroplex's diversity. The proceeds from these activities will go toward the property's continuing restoration and care in order to maintain its legacy.
