The Mansion at Bald Hill is a historic landmark in the quiet corner of Northeastern Connecticut — a restored estate in South Woodstock that operates as a restaurant, bed and breakfast, and full-service wedding and event venue. The centerpiece for private events is the Banquet Center, a 7,500-square-foot facility that opened in 2015 and was designed to reflect the elegance of the original mansion. The ballroom accommodates up to 275 guests and features a wood arched-truss ceiling, a granite-topped bar, a dance floor, and a professional sound system. An indoor fireplace anchors the reception space, while a large adjacent patio — equipped with an outdoor fireplace, fire ring, decorative fountain, and waterfall — extends the gathering area outdoors. Roseland Cottage is a National Historic Landmark in Woodstock, Connecticut, managed by Historic New England. Built in 1846 for New York merchant and publisher Henry Bowen, the Gothic Revival estate is instantly recognizable by its bright pink board-and-batten exterior, steep gabled rooflines, and ornamental bargeboards — considered one of the best-preserved examples of the style in the country. The grounds reflect the same Victorian ambition as the house itself. A boxwood parterre garden, designed in the 1850s, contains 21 flowerbeds with more than 4,000 annuals. The carriage barn shelters the oldest surviving indoor bowling alley in the nation, a reminder that Bowen used Roseland Cottage to entertain on a grand scale — four U.S. presidents among them. From May through October, the Carriage House and south lawn are available for private events including weddings, corporate gatherings, and celebrations. The rental includes kitchen facilities, tables and chairs, and two accessible restrooms, all set against grounds that have hosted guests since the age of Ulysses S. Grant.

During your stay at the Lord Thompson Manor, we will provide you and your guests with a private environment in which you can use the Manor and Cottage House for your Rehearsal Dinner, Late Night Gathering, Spa Treatment, Wedding Reception, After Party, and Farewell Breakfast over the weekend. In order to make each of these Wedding weekend events truly extraordinary, we believe that four key elements must be present: food, staff, on-site planning and coordination, and romance. When it comes to a wedding reception at the Lord Thompson Manor, the flow is designed to create a party atmosphere rather than a traditional "sit-down" reception style. Starting with a Champagne toast, which is typically held on our Side Garden Balcony following your ceremony, your reception will get underway! Following the toast, cocktails and passed hors d'oeuvres are served throughout the Manor, encouraging your guests to mingle and explore the grounds of the estate. Your guests will be seated in the Dining Rooms for a dinner that will include our Chef's Duo Entree Plate. After only about an hour, we begin the first dance, Cake Cutting, or any other formalities you wish to include, in order to get your guests up and out of their dining tables and into the Conservatory for the reception. For the remainder of the Reception, the Music takes it away from you. Cake, coffee, and dessert are served at Stations, eliminating the need for your guests to return to their formal tables after the meal is finished. Your guests will be active participants throughout the evening rather than passive observers at their tables, which is exactly how we like our parties.
