Sherman and Harris kept journals detailing their thirty-day stay at the Harris Plantation, which may be found at the Atlanta History Center.   The Engine Room is a one-of-a-kind event facility in historic downtown Monroe, Georgia, housed in portion of the Monroe Cotton Mills, which housed the engines that powered the mill machinery for 90 years. The hardwood floors, exposed brick walls with worn paint, heart of pine columns, iron bars covering a few of the windows, and major entrances with historic sliding fire doors have all been repaired and kept intact in the building, which has been a part of Monroe's history since 1895. This completely accessible, climate controlled space is one of the largest in Walton county, with modern comforts like as a full service commercial catering prep kitchen, updated industrial chic restrooms, and a huge bridal suite. The Engine Room's 6,400 sq ft main hall can accommodate groups of up to 400 seated or 500 standing people, but it may also be partitioned to accommodate smaller wedding ceremonies and receptions. With the old brick mill building and its surrounding towers acting as a magnificent backdrop, the expansive outdoor lawn provides an acre and a half of green area for ceremonies, parties, and picnics. The Engine Room also has a tucked-away outdoor patio for receptions and short ceremonies in a secluded open-air setting. Weddings The Engine Room is Monroe's newest and most interesting Special Events venue, providing both value and beauty. The Engine Room, with over 15,000 square feet of total area, can accommodate weddings of all shapes and sizes.   Rankin Gardens & Atrium at Columbus State University is a historic event venue housed in a building that dates to 1864, rebuilt in brick following a fire in 1878 and operating as the Rankin Hotel for roughly 100 years. The property was placed on the National Register of Historic Sites and Places in 1977. Over that century, it welcomed guests including Oscar Wilde, John Philip Sousa, and William Jennings Bryan. Today it offers more than 8,200 square feet of brick-lined event space in downtown Columbus, Georgia, accommodating up to 175 guests for weddings, receptions, rehearsal dinners, vow renewals, holiday parties, corporate luncheons, and other private gatherings.
