Chicago's Burnham Park is approximately 600 acres in size and is located on the city's Lakefront just south of Grant Park. A south lakefront park designed by Chicago's famous architect and planner Daniel H. Burnham, published in his landmark work The Plan of Chicago in 1909 and featuring constructed islands and a linear boating harbor as well as beaches, meadows, and playfields, was named in his honor. Today, Burnham Park is home to the scenic Promontory Point, built by Alfred Caldwell, as well as a popular skate park on 31st Street, which are both located within the park. Additionally, the park has benches positioned on 12th Street, 31st Street, Oakwood and 57th Street, in addition to bird sanctuaries and stunning natural areas. In comparison to the other park features, the Margaret T. Burroughs Beach and Park is a more recent addition, stretching from 31st Street to 26th Street. In the mid-1890s, Chicago's legendary architect and planner Daniel H. Burnham began drawing plans for a spectacular park and boulevard that would link Jackson Park with the city's central business district and other neighborhoods. Jackson Park in Chicago had been converted from a sandy, wind-swept wasteland into the glittering White City by Daniel Burnham (1846-1912), who served as Chief of Construction for the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893. Following the exhibition, Burnham began to envision a Chicago that was more attractive, organized, and functional. Burnham's design, which included a south lakefront park with a series of man-made islands, a linear boating harbor, beaches, meadows, and play fields, was published in his groundbreaking 1909 Plan of Chicago, which was widely regarded as a watershed moment in Chicago's history. Burnham Park, which includes the naturalistic Promontory Point landscape designed by renowned landscape architect Alfred Caldwell, was completed and improved in the mid-1930s with government monies from the Works Progress Administration, thanks to the efforts of the newly formed Chicago Park District. Mayor Edward J. Kelly began exploring the possibility of establishing a permanent fair in Burnham Park in 1935. Burnham Park has begun to take shape in recent years, thanks to the efforts of Mayor Richard M. Daley, who envisioned a greener, more beautiful park. Sixty acres of asphalt were turned into a beautifully planted Museum Campus in the process. In addition, the former Meigs Field has been transformed into a 91-acre natural area park known as Northerly Island, where visitors may enjoy a paved all-purpose trail and other amenities. Birders can get glimpses of migrating birds throughout the fall and spring seasons, while anglers can find the perfect fishing place during the summer and winter seasons.

The Mitz is a premier landmark building set in the Wicker Park area, just minutes away from Downtown Chicago. Pleasant Home is considered one of the nation's earliest and most distinguished examples of Prairie School architecture, and it is operated as a living museum by the Pleasant Home Foundation. It is open to the public year-round and offers a year-round schedule of educational programs, community events and festivals, and cultural performances. The mansion, created by famed architect George W. Maher in 1897 for investment banker and philanthropist John W. Farson and his wife Mamie Ashworth Farson, is located on the grounds of the University of Chicago. Pleasant Home's architecture deviated from the usual Queen Anne and colonial revival designs that characterize the majority of the residences in Oak Park. Farson's home is distinguished by its simple massing, its large front porch, the smooth surfaces of Roman bricks and stone, and the employment of ornamental themes to harmonize the interior decorating and furnishings, all of which contribute to its status as a premier Prairie Schoolhouse. Featuring rich bespoke woodwork throughout the property, amazing art glass windows, a giant fireplace, complex woodcarvings, and tile work, the 30-room architectural marvel is a showcase of 19th-century workmanship and talent. Pleasant Home was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, and it has been there ever since. It was included on the Illinois Historic Structures Survey the next year, in the same year. Pleasant Home was designated as a National Historic Landmark by the National Park Service in 1996, and the Village of Oak Park designated it as one of the original Oak Park Landmarks in 1997. Oak Park's vast array of architectural and cultural treasures is the focus of The Pleasant Home Foundation's efforts to restore, preserve, and operate the home as a beloved local civic institution as well as a destination for visitors from around the world who come to enjoy Oak Park's vast array of architectural and cultural treasures.

Lonesome Rose
2101 N California Ave, Oak Park, IL 60647, USALonesome Rose, a 'borderlands' idea concentrating on the rich cultural history of the regional states of northern Mexico and the southwestern United States, is the perfect private dining spot. Lonesome Rose is an accessible, imaginative take on the best of these border regions, opening early and staying open (very) late. With an open and airy area, wood elements, and a lot of plants for design, the vibe is reminiscent of southern California. While a border may separate two countries, their histories have long been linked, informing and influencing one another across generations. This is most visible in the drinking and eating habits of the regions, where products, recipes, and skills have been passed down down the generations, improving with each passing. We celebrate and explore this intriguing history with Lonesome Rose's carefully thought out dishes and beverages that focus on the flavors shared by these two places. Every day, we welcome you to join us for breakfast, lunch, supper, and drinks. Whether you’re walking in with a small group or joining us for a private dining experience, you’re bound to fall in love with Lonesome Rose. “A little taste of Austin in Chicago! $3 tacos with fresh tasty ingredients, including beloved breakfast tacos, yes please! Perfect salsa trio, a fresh guac and a fun choco taco dessert too. Top notch mixologist drinks as well. Clean cut open decor with plants and simple wood. I mean even the napkins are super cute. We hear there’s a summer roof deck in the works and can’t wait to go back next time we’re in town.” -Agnes S.
