  Our Personal Narrative Katy, Texas's Bowery House and Gardens are located at the intersection of Franz Road and Katy Fort Bend Road, in the city's historic district. As a legacy for his family, the original owner planted oak trees throughout the property, with seven of them planted in a row facing Franz Road on the west side. Eventually, his grandson inherited the land, and he refused to sell it when the property was zoned for commercial use because he was concerned that the oaks would be destroyed to make way for a development. When we approached the grandson about purchasing the parcel of land, we assured him that it was the oak trees that made the property so appealing to us. He agreed to sell on the condition that the oaks would be left in their original location. When it came to commercially developing the land, we considered a number of different options. The Bowery House and Gardens at 7 Oaks came to fruition as a result of combining our personal event planning expertise with the picturesque setting of the property. The venue and surrounding gardens have far exceeded our expectations in every respect. The beauty and historic tranquility of 7 Oaks have brought us great joy, and we are delighted to share it with our friends, neighbors, and guests. Special Occasions Among the many types of events that the Bowery House and Gardens caters to are Quinceaneras, family reunions, recitals, fundraisers, corporate and community gatherings, among others. Because we have multiple indoor spaces, we can accommodate up to 600 people on all three floors if we use all of them together. If you make use of the outdoor spaces as well, your event will be even more successful. We also enjoy working on smaller, more intimate events as well.   River Oaks Garden Club, a member of The Garden Club of America, was founded in 1927 and has made numerous contributions to the Houston community in the areas of conservation, horticulture, and civic beautification. River Oaks Garden Club is a member of The Garden Club of America. The proceeds from the Azalea Trail are used to support the following ongoing projects: Louise Stevenson, a founding member of the River Oaks Garden Club, was the driving force behind the organization's inception. She persuaded her next-door neighbor, Hennie Cottingham, to join her in forming some sort of civic beautification organization to address the critical need for civic beautification in the River Oaks neighborhood. When the Garden Club's first official meeting was held on October 27, 1927, it was attended by 29 members, and it marked the beginning of a thriving and growing organization that was eventually admitted into the Garden Club of America in 1938. The members of the club quickly gained knowledge in the areas of gardening, garden design, horticulture, and flower arranging, among other things. They used their newfound knowledge to encourage others to get involved in improving the planted environment in Houston. There are no commercial, political, or fundraising purposes permitted on the Forum. Teen parties are also prohibited on the Forum. The maximum number of people who can fit into the space is 175. HPD security will be provided, and all functions must be completed and the building cleaned and vacated by midnight on the day of the rental agreement. The building manager must approve any outside catering, and all rental equipment must be picked up after the event unless otherwise agreed upon with the building manager.

  Arabia Shrine Center

  From Galveston to Houston In 1870 a group of Masons gathered frequently for lunch at the Knickerbocker Cottage on Sixth Avenue in New York City. At a special table on the second floor, a particularly fun-loving group of men met regularly. Among the regulars were Walter M. Fleming, M.D. and William J. “Billy” Florence, an actor. The group frequently talked about starting a new fraternity for Masons – one centered on fun and fellowship, more than ritual. Fleming and Florence took this idea seriously enough to do something about it. ​ Billy Florence had been on tour in France and had been invited to a party given by an Arabian diplomat. The exotic style, flavors, and music of the Arabian-themed party inspired him to suggest this as a theme for the new fraternity. Walter Fleming, a devoted fraternity brother, built on Fleming’s ideas and used his knowledge of fraternal ritual to transform the Arabian theme into the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine (A.A.O.N.M.S.). ​ With the help of the Knickerbocker Cottage regulars, Fleming drafted the ritual, designed the emblem and costumes, formulated a salutation and declared that members would wear the red fez. The first meeting of Mecca Shriners, the first temple (chapter) established in the United States, was held September 26, 1872. As word got out about the fledgling organization, membership grew rapidly, spreading across the U.S. In the early 1900s, membership spread into Canada, Mexico, and Panama. Today, Shriners International is a fraternity with nearly 200 temples in several countries, thousands of clubs around the world and hundreds of thousands of members dedicated to the principles of brotherly love, relief and truth.
