  Brushy Creek Event Center sits on 53 acres in Farmersville, Texas, where it shares its land with ThrowAway Ponies, a horse rescue nonprofit. Founded in 2016 by Karen Bander and Jaclyn Bander, the venue hosts weddings, birthday parties, and corporate events in a rustic, country setting. The property's main barn spans 3,400 square feet, with a 30-by-60-foot main area that comfortably seats 110 guests for dinner, dancing, and a DJ setup, and holds up to 150 guests at max occupancy. The adjoining "Saloon" bar area opens onto both the outdoor patio and the indoor main space, with wine glasses available for rent, two mini fridges, and ample counter space. A groom's room and a full kitchen with two refrigerators, a dishwasher, and an oven round out the barn's amenities, with dishware and kitchenware also available for rent. Outdoors, couples can hold a ceremony overlooking the property's pond and tree line before moving the reception inside. A wedding arch, a fire pit, and a private cabin with its own bathroom are also available, the latter offering a quiet space for the bride to get ready or for the couple to stay overnight. A Brief History of the Rose Chapel and Southside Preservation Hall The former Central Methodist Church, built in 1911 at 1519 Lipscomb St., was formerly the spiritual home of many notable Fort Worth families around the turn of the century. The building has been threatened with demolition multiple times since the congregation relocated in 1969. The Panther Boys Club, a civic organization, purchased the facility in 1972 and transformed the church facilities into a gymnasium, boxing ring, and adolescent dance area. The chapel was not in use at the time. The property was then spared from demolition by the Southside Preservation Association, which was founded in 1996 by a determined group of preservationists. The Association, which is run entirely by volunteers and is a non profit organization, works to repair the facility's buildings and grounds, winning multiple community honors in the process. The magnificent, restored Rose Chapel, named after the Flower of Love, is always booked. The Southside Preservation Hall's adjoining rooms accommodate a diverse range of events, from corporate parties and wedding receptions to dances, classes, and performances that reflect the metroplex's diversity. The proceeds from these activities will go toward the property's continuing restoration and care in order to maintain its legacy.

  Arabia Shrine Center

  From Galveston to Houston In 1870 a group of Masons gathered frequently for lunch at the Knickerbocker Cottage on Sixth Avenue in New York City. At a special table on the second floor, a particularly fun-loving group of men met regularly. Among the regulars were Walter M. Fleming, M.D. and William J. “Billy” Florence, an actor. The group frequently talked about starting a new fraternity for Masons – one centered on fun and fellowship, more than ritual. Fleming and Florence took this idea seriously enough to do something about it. ​ Billy Florence had been on tour in France and had been invited to a party given by an Arabian diplomat. The exotic style, flavors, and music of the Arabian-themed party inspired him to suggest this as a theme for the new fraternity. Walter Fleming, a devoted fraternity brother, built on Fleming’s ideas and used his knowledge of fraternal ritual to transform the Arabian theme into the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine (A.A.O.N.M.S.). ​ With the help of the Knickerbocker Cottage regulars, Fleming drafted the ritual, designed the emblem and costumes, formulated a salutation and declared that members would wear the red fez. The first meeting of Mecca Shriners, the first temple (chapter) established in the United States, was held September 26, 1872. As word got out about the fledgling organization, membership grew rapidly, spreading across the U.S. In the early 1900s, membership spread into Canada, Mexico, and Panama. Today, Shriners International is a fraternity with nearly 200 temples in several countries, thousands of clubs around the world and hundreds of thousands of members dedicated to the principles of brotherly love, relief and truth.
