A HOME THAT HAS CHANGED HISTORY President Lincoln’s Cottage was built for banker George W. Riggs in 1842. Architect John Skirving designed the house, situated on a hilltop overlooking downtown Washington, D.C. in the Gothic-Revival style popularized by A.J. Downing. During the Civil War, President Lincoln and his family relocated to the Soldiers’ Home for the “hot season.” The tranquil surroundings at the Soldiers’ Home offered refreshing breezes, a relief from White House protocol, and a place for the President to reflect on all-consuming decisions about military strategy, domestic policy, and foreign relations. Though often viewed as a sanctuary for the president, Lincoln was no less consumed with the war and issues of freedom and slavery here. In many ways, life at the Cottage brought the first family closer to the war and its human cost. At the Soldiers’ Home, Lincoln made some of the decisions that defined his presidency. He met and consulted with Secretary of War Edwin Stanton, Secretary of State William Seward, Vice President Hannibal Hamlin, and many others. He also formulated his ideas on how to bring about an end to slavery during the war in what became the Emancipation Proclamation.

The menu is constantly changing as a result of the use of only seasonally available ingredients. This allows guests to sample a wide variety of dishes by sharing small and large plates of food with one another. Nina May's "Chef's Choice" dining experience is a one-of-a-kind dining experience. We invite you to sample this one-of-a-kind, seasonally inspired dining experience. Chef's Choice allows you to sample and learn about some of our favorite dishes on the menu while dining with us. Because this menu is intended to be shared, we ask that you bring a minimum of two people to the table. There are also a la carte options available. Besides offering an excellent dining experience, Nina May also offers an extensive cocktail menu created by the talented Simic, a former mixologist. With its innovative take on classic cocktails, Simic demonstrates how to strike the perfect balance between simple ingredients and modern infusions. Nina May boasts two full-service bars that serve an extensive cocktail menu as well as a selection of unusual wines. McClimans and Simic, who own and operate their business as a family, have truly opened their home to the community, and they hope that those who come to visit will feel at home. Nina May is an intimate and fun space in the heart of Washington, D.C. Our menu is hyper-local and seasonal, and we offer family-style options as well as plated meals. We are committed to collaborating with hosts in order to create a one-of-a-kind and unforgettable experience. With brick-oven pizzas, mouth-watering burgers, and freshly caught fish — no matter what kind of diner you are looking for from casual to adventurous, City Tap House DC guarantees they will satisfy you and your guests' appetite. City Tap House DC prides themselves on using locally sourced ingredients. Their chefs are experts in their craft and, like their favorite brewers, champion innovation, integrity and hard work. Above all, City Tap House DC's goal is to see their food and craft beer enhance your special event and ensure it is one your guests will love. For City Tap House DC, craft is everything. “Craft” is most often defined as doing things by hand. For City Tap House DC, craft is complex, innovative beers. Craft is food that inspires and surprises the palate. Craft is service that delights and exceeds expectations. Most importantly, craft means championing love and integrity in every aspect of what they do. From India Pale to Berliner Weisse, Fruited Wheats to Barrel-Aged Stouts, the world of craft beer is rich with variety and innovation. With so much beer to try, entering this world can feel overwhelming. Throw in jargon like “hoppy-ness,” “cask-conditioned,” and “brettanomyces” — it’s easy to drown in the vocabulary of craft beer alone! But that’s why City Tap House DC is here: to make craft beer accessible to all. In City Tap House DC's kitchen, craft comes first. Like beer slowly fermenting in a tank, their food is prepared with equal parts precision and patience. Lead by Executive Chef, Ian Branning our menu blends personal expertise with regional traditions to make something daring and refreshing.
