The elegant exterior of the Club was created by renowned architects Walter Bliss and William Faville, who were inspired by the Renaissance's Italianate style to create an attractive, ageless structure. The Clubhouse's beauty and warm ambience are suitable for the Club's various member functions. The University Club of San Francisco was established with the goal of providing a gathering place for alumni from various colleges. The Clubhouse's first location was rented at 722 Sutter Street. It was eventually regarded too tiny to accommodate the rising membership, despite its elegance. In the historic earthquake of 1906, the Club's original location at 722 Sutter was demolished, and the majority of the building was devoured by fire. 800 Powell, once the Stanford Mansion's stables, was chosen as the location for the new Clubhouse. The Club's new edifice was designed by renowned architects Walter Bliss and William Faville.

Greens Restaurant is a perfect venue for any type of private event. Wedding receptions large and small, business presentations and meetings, birthday parties, bridal and baby showers, alumni receptions — the list goes on and on. Whatever the event, Greens is the place for it. The entire restaurant is available for a buyout any day or evening. Greens can accommodate up to 140 people for a sit-down meal and 200 people for a standing reception. We also have a beautiful Private Dining Room that can seat up to 50 people, or host a standing reception of up to 70, though we frequently have groups of less than 25. The Private Dining Room has the same expansive views of the San Francisco Bay and the iconic Golden Gate Bridge as our main dining room, but in a more intimate setting.
