Production services, venue rentals for events, picture equipment rentals, and production vehicle rentals are all available from the studio's 10,500 square foot facility. Regardless of the production, MAPS Backlot can supply you with all of the supplies, event venues, and direction you need. Reception Palace Ballrooms opened in 2000, thanks to the founding mother-daughter duo of Aida and Soraya Huguet. Over the last decade, it has since remained a family-owned and operated business that values clients on a personal level from the moment someone calls the office until the last guest leaves the event. The idea behind Reception Palace Ballrooms really began with Soraya’s father, and Aida’s late husband, Alfredo, a natural in the hospitality business. He loved to cook, entertain, organize, please and delight, which made him and his family the perfect fit for the special event industry. It was Alfredo who inspired that passion Soraya and Aida had for helping others turn simple occasions into something special. After he passed, that fire continued to burn inside the two. Founded by Mario Carbone, Rich Torrisi, and Jeff Zalaznick, Carbone is one of the most celebrated Italian restaurants of the last decade. The New York Times probably put it best: “It is a fancy red-sauce joint as directed by Quentin Tarantino, bringing back the punch-in-the-guts thrills of a genre that everybody else sees as uncultured and a little embarrassing, while exposing the sophistication that was always lurking there. The restaurant has a technical prowess that can make you giddy and an instinct for sheer entertainment that makes a lot of other restaurants seem like earnest, unimaginative drones.” Zalaznick, Torrisi, and Carbone—who together own the company Major Food Group—are also behind such iconic concepts as THE GRILL, Sadelle’s, ZZ’s Clam Bar, Parm, and Dirty French. Casa Casuarina was built in 1930 by Alden Freeman. Alden Freeman’s father, Joel Freeman was Treasurer of The Standard Oil Trust (also known as Rockefeller’s Company) and left Alden a fabulous wealth when he passed away. That gave the young and wealthy Alden the opportunity to retire at the age of 27 from being an architect and travel all over the world. Alden was also a descendent of the Mayflower on his mother’s side and felt a very strong tie to history. Freeman, always well-travelled and very intelligent, loved the adventurous spirit of Christopher Columbus and on one of his many trips around the world, went to visit the Alcazar De Colon in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) which was built by Diego Columbus (Christopher Columbus’s Son) and is known for being the oldest residence in the western hemisphere. Alden was so inspired by the house that he decided to build his own home in Miami Beach as homage to the Alcazar De Colon and bought back 2 bricks from the house. One sits to the right hand side of the main entrance and one sits in his former house in the city of Santa Barbara, California (named the “Montarioso” estate, which was later donated to the city and was then restored and studied by the Pearl Chase Society of Santa Barbara). Alden dreamed of living in a bohemian society with all of his friends from local areas such as Coconut Grove and Coral Gables. In addition, on his many trips abroad he would meet fascinating people and always invite them to hang out in his beautiful home here in Miami Beach.

The Miami Beach Botanical Garden is a hidden gem, a lush landscape of tropical plants and flowering trees that scent the air with frangipani, ylang-ylang and jasmine. The natural beauty and privacy of the 3-acre garden lends an atmosphere of secluded charm for your special event or wedding. The garden was redesigned by the renowned Raymond Jungles whom It was transformed in 2011 with a $1.2 million landscape renovation designed by South Florida landscape. The new landscape showcases native Florida plants and trees including bromeliads, palms, cycad, orchids and many others. Our garden allows for 500+ guest receptions and is approved for the use of tenting throughout. The Great Lawn is perfect for a large tented affair and can accommodate a dance floor, stage, dining and connects perfectly to a spacious courtyard patio for perhaps cocktails and appetizers. Also within the patio is the Lapidus Fountain which is surrounded by palms and to the front of the patio a large koi pond creating the perfect setting by day and lit by night, highlighting our plantings and trees throughout the garden. Ceremonies area include, Banyan Lawn overlooking a 100-year-old banyan tree or our Great Lawn for larger ceremonies. The Japanese Garden allows for up to 40 guests and is standing room only. Our Butterfly Gallery is perfect as a meeting space, green room or bridal suite. The Banyan Room boasts a lofted ceiling, chandeliers, stone tile flooring and large sliding glass doors that open onto the Covered Terrace which is covered with a permanent waterproof sails cloth.
