  The Pavilion at Weatherly is a waterfront farm wedding and events venue set on 25 private acres along the Potomac River in Newburg, Maryland, roughly an hour south of Washington, DC. The property offers more than 600 feet of shoreline, 180-degree river views, and a 130-foot lighted pier extending over the water — a combination that gives it a rare sense of natural privacy without sacrificing accessibility for out-of-town guests. The centerpiece of the property is a timber frame pavilion built with a contemporary country aesthetic and nautical touches. Douglas fir posts and beams define the interior, while a glass wall facing the river and 12 glass doors that open onto the lawn and beach keep the connection to the water immediate.   The History of Rockwood Manor Retreats and Events After leaving Washington, D.C., Carolyn Gangwer Caughey (pronounced "Coy") traveled west along the Old Conduit Road (now MacArthur Boulevard) to her newly purchased estate near Great Falls. Mountains of tall cedars, poplars, and oaks cover rock-studded hillsides that gently slope down to a stream valley. A name for Mrs. Caughey's country estate was suggested to her by the natural elements almost immediately: Rockwood. Carolyn was a well-to-do socialite whose ancestors traced their roots back to the American Revolution. She was also a successful businesswoman who had a passion for architecture and a keen eye for profit in the real estate market. According to Who's Who in the Nation's Capital, she is "active in civic betterment, particularly in relation to better-constructed and better-planned homes," among other things. It also mentions that she was responsible for designing one of the largest apartment buildings in the nation's capital at the time. As a result, many of her close friends were not surprised when she revealed that she had designed and personally supervised the construction of her new home. Visiting auctions and antique dealers in the area on a regular basis assisted her in the furnishing of her country estate.   Snow Hill Manor is a 2½-story brick plantation house of late-Georgian style set on 17 acres in Laurel, Maryland, overlooking the Patuxent River. Built in the 18th century and listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1974, the manor offers a secluded, private setting that lends itself to intimate gatherings and special celebrations. Inside, six large rooms are lined with warm hardwoods and soaring ceilings, providing elegant surroundings for weddings and receptions, corporate retreats, holiday parties, and workshops. A large tented brick patio and expansive lawns extend the event space outdoors, accommodating up to 120 guests across the property.
