Built over a 55-year period beginning in 1924, the four buildings that make up Lone Star Gas Lofts are situated on a full city block bounded by Harwood, Wood, St. Paul and Jackson Streets in downtown Dallas. Two of the structures, the Lone Star Gas Co. and Dallas Gas Company buildings, are historic landmarks and fine examples of Lang and Witchell architecture with beautiful Art Deco details and are Dallas’ latest historic landmarks to be revived by Hamilton Properties in partnership with Central Dallas CDC.The Lone star Gas Co. Building is a thirteen story Art Deco structure with rich street entrances bearing ornate light fixtures. The elaborately appointed lobby once served as the bill payment area, back in the age when paying your bill meant taking a trip downtown, and still has soaring columns with ornamental check stands, a high beamed ceiling in brilliant colors and relief sculptures carved into the stone walls. The Ostreum is a Roman amphitheatre built in the first century AD. Weddings and special events are now being hosted at the venue, which opened its doors in June. Located in Fort Worth, Texas, The Ostreum is the second venue owned and operated by Lynsie Blau. It is the sister (not the twin) of BRIK Venue. Ostreum is the latin word for oyster, and it also the name of the city in which it is situated. Named for the luxury associated with oysters and the notion that beauty is housed under an inconspicuous facade, the name is appropriate for the establishment. It is also necessary to consider the speakeasy notion. Previous to that, it served as the warehouse component of the O.B. Macaroni Factory, which was founded in the early 1900s. As well as the exposed brick walls, the venue still retains its original red wood columns and rafters. This area has been refurbished in a romantic, art deco design, which is carried throughout. Tasteful. Stylish and unique, these are the words that come to mind. The Ostreum is meant to give you the flexibility to plan your day exactly how you want it to be. Traditional red wood columns and ivory painted old cinder block walls grace the main chamber of our vast establishment. The venue offers couples two ceremony options: an outdoor trellis with a Hill Country backdrop, and a 3,000-square-foot indoor Chapel with capacity for 300, built to serve as a weather-protected alternative that connects directly to the Reception Hall. The Reception Hall seats up to 300 guests and features retractable barn doors, while the combined Chapel and hall can accommodate 400 seated guests. An 800-square-foot bridal suite with a private bathroom overlooks the outdoor ceremony site, and a separate groomsroom is also available. HISTORY OF THE VENUE The Brake & Clutch building was constructed in the 1930s and served as the home of Brake & Clutch Service Co. for many years before closing in the 1980s. It stood empty for years, waiting to be converted into the space it is now! The venue, which launched in 2017, is run by a mother and two children who designed it expressly for special gatherings. The towering ceilings, industrial atmosphere, and high-end finish lend themselves to basic and elegant styles, as well as anything in between.
