“Love Piccolo, Love!” Gussie's is a project of passion inspired by co-owner David Thate's love of Italian cooking and serving friends and family. The inspiration of the restaurant comes from his grandmother Augusta “Gussie". For Thate, recounting the time being in the kitchen with grandma, helping her throw dinner parties for friends and family was always the best time. As Thate grew, he took what he learned not only from his own experiences with Grandma Gussie, but also his great aunts and his own travels to Italy. Gussie's Handmade Italian brings all those experiences together. The goal is to bring the joy of dining together to you by using the freshest ingredients and freshly made traditional Italian pastas. Fifteen years ago Stuart Grannen, the founder of the Chicago staple, Architectural Artifacts Inc., purchased an old Charcoal factory in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. He and an internationally acclaimed designer converted this incredible factory space into an AIA award winning home. They kept as much of the original interior finishes to keep the integrity of the building. Stuart began receiving requests for photoshoots and small parties which led him to the conclusion that this space was too special to keep to himself! Rockwell on the River is located in an old manufacturing complex in the Avondale neighborhood in Chicago. This unique industrial building will feature over 16,000 square feet of the main event space totaling over 22,000 square feet including the outdoor and staging areas. The architectural details include high lofted double bow truss ceilings, skylights, exposed brick, timber construction, Black Locust end-grain flooring, Italian Masonry in the courtyard and riverfront, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the North branch of the Chicago River. The river frontage will bring the indoors out with over 3,000 square feet of cocktail-worthy space.
