ABOUT Bespoke Only is a multidisciplinary design business situated in New York City. Our design concept is based on the idea that each environment is alive and organic, evolving as we study and react to it. The Bespoke Only aesthetic values simplicity, harmony, and respect for negative space, which we feel allows for continual evolution of the space and its people. Their expertise in fine arts, luxury goods, and hospitality allow them to approach each project uniquely. Their diverse backgrounds complement and differentiate Bespoke Only's work, resulting in work of remarkable quality and depth. Collaboration with talented craftsmen, dealers, and merchants is also an important element of their design process. Melissa Lee, a designer and self-taught aesthete, launched the firm in 2004. Bespoke Only's portfolio includes hospitality, residential, and event projects ranging from large-scale to intimate weddings across the country. The duo's work has recently appeared in SURFACE and Whitewall. We respect the intangibles of space over computer depictions. Projects always require new technical drawings. We are not one of the many design firms that use drawings primarily as communication tools. An environment and avenue to form interactions within a location is our goal rather than sheer visual statements. We see homes as living creatures that grow and should be grown into. Instead of starting with a completely planned area and build-out, an overall concept is produced first. We set out to establish a unique and honest space, not a “showroom”. Choices can inform choices, and this organic learning process can lead to the beautiful unexpected. To us, spaces are never “finished”, but rather richly layered throughout time by their residents. Negative space is a vital feature in all of our projects. Our ability to translate concepts into materials and forms that are both useful and deeply experiential is one of our greatest talents. With each theme, we attempted to build an emotional, nostalgic, and intimate connection with our guests.
