Coastal Wood Designs

Hi! My name is Helen, and I've lived on the Coastside for as long as I can remember. I'm an artist and an entrepreneur. I am a student at San Jose State University, where I am working toward a degree in Business Marketing. I have a strong interest in both people and the wider world. I first began experimenting with wood burning when I was a senior in high school. The first thought that came to mind was to make presents for close friends and family. I came to the realization that I could teach anyone about my art not long after I started practicing on scraps of wood in my backyard. My artwork has flourished as a result of the tremendous support that I have received from those around me. The price that I charge is based on the characteristics of the piece as well as the dimensions of the wood. After we have determined your artwork, I will be able to choose a dimension of wood that is within your price range. I most frequently burn on birchwood, basswood, and maplewood, all of which come in a variety of sizes and shapes. In addition to that, I've charred things like tables, cutting boards, benches, surfboards, barn wood, large scale signs, and earrings. Wood is sometimes provided by the customers themselves. Even the lettering on a farming tool that was made a century ago that I restored. When it comes to repurposed wood surfaces, I work in partnership with a nearby wood sawyer. Redwood, walnut, oak, black acacia, and cypress are the most common types of wood that he offers. He gives me the pieces of wood that are too small for the larger projects he is working on. In any other circumstance, these components would be discarded. It brings me so much joy to be able to rescue them and transform them into something enchanted.
