First Name Basis

Hello! My name is Amanda Click, and I'm the owner and chef at First Name Basis. Here is a brief explanation of how it all came to be: I had the honor of serving as the editor of a hyperlocal news site in the city after earning my degree from the College of Charleston in 2009. Making friends with and interviewing the farmers, chefs, food truck operators, and restaurateurs leading Charleston's (then) culinary revival was my favorite aspect of the work. This group of people motivated me so much that I decided to enroll in the Culinary Institute of Charleston. I gave up my dream of being a journalist and went headfirst into Charleston's food and beverage industry. After years of perfecting my craft as a head chef of a nearby catering company, on award-winning food trucks, in private chef jobs, and in restaurants, I had the concept for First Name Basis. At one of these positions, I had the life-altering experience of working with a wood-fired oven, and I fell in love right away. Thus, First Name Basis was created.
