About Honeysuckle Hoedown
Honeysuckle Hoedown brings together four of Boston's most talented and energetic musicians to make your special day memorable and entertaining! With years of experience playing and coordinating music for weddings and other events, Honeysuckle Hoedown strives to make your special day memorable and fun! Laura has won firsts at the Western Open Championships, the California State Championships, the Nevada State Championships, and many regional events. She has also placed in the top five of her division at the National Fiddle Championships. Laura has shared the stage with fiddle legends including Darol Anger, Matt Glazer, Bruce Molsky, and the legendary Swedish band Väsen. She's a member of the Dead Horse String Band, Ruby Mountain String Band, Kali Yuga Hoedown, and West Road Contraband, among others. She's been leading and organizing contra bands for eight years and has performed at dances in San Francisco, Palo Alto, and Sonoma, among others. She hosts a fiddle contest at the Redwood Empire Fair in Ukiah every August and has served as a judge for the Western Open and California State championships, among others. She now attends Berklee College of Music on a full scholarship. Ethan began learning classical violin at the age of four and has since expanded his repertoire to include bluegrass guitar and mandolin. He mixes the subtleties learnt from Bach and Beethoven into the hard-driving, fast-picking compositions of Bill Monroe and Lester Flatt as the Guitarist/Vocalist of Honeysuckle Hoedown. Ethan began playing bluegrass at Oberlin College, where he was a founding member of the Oberlin Bluegrass Phenomenon "The Outhouse Troubadours." Ethan has played with a number of Boston-area super-groups since moving to the city, including "Bluegrass: The Band" (a bluegrass "The Band" cover band) and his own original bluegrass funk project, "Cold Chocolate," whose music can be heard on Americana stations across the country as well as in Europe. Kirsten Lamb grew raised in a musical family in northern New Jersey, surrounded by a wide array of music and musicians. Kirsten has been a multi-instrumentalist since she was a child, having studied piano, violin, and guitar before beginning to master the upright bass at the age of thirteen. She rapidly moved her attention to the bass because of its versatility, which suited her growing interest in various musical forms. Kirsten continued her upright bass studies at the Oberlin Conservatory in Oberlin, Ohio, where she studied under Thomas Sperl of the Cleveland Orchestra and Peter Dominguez of the Oberlin Conservatory's Jazz Studies and Double Bass Department. She now lives in Boston, Massachusetts, and performs regularly with a number of local bands, as well as touring nationally and internationally. James began playing classical piano at the age of four, later expanding out into jazz and other genres. But it was while attending college in Baltimore that he discovered his true love: the five-string banjo. He now works as a banjo-picking physicist at MIT in Cambridge, where he is also involved in the local bluegrass and folk scene. He can be heard playing inside and outside the box with Cold Chocolate, Rachel Aumiller and her Illegits, and many of the top pickers and singers in the area. He won the 2012 Lowell Banjo and Fiddle Contest.
