Northside Brass

Ryan founded Northside Brass Music Co. in 2014. NB is a full-service music and contracting firm that delivers live musicians for weddings, corporate events, private parties, Broadway shows, touring shows, and sideacts. Solo Trumpet, Brass Quintet, String Quartet, Jazz Quartet, 7 Piece Jazz Band, and DJ services are among our bands. Ryan Hobbs started Northside Brass with a few buddies from DePaul University's School of Music. Northside Brass Quintet is a Chicago-based 501(c)(3) non-profit made up of freelance musicians. We continue to promote and distribute chamber music for the Brass Quintet in the tradition of the Canadian Brass and influenced by the sound of the Chicago Symphony Brass. Our members have performed with or are members of several of Chicago's premier orchestras and opera companies, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera, Grant Park Orchestra, Madison Symphony, Broadway in Chicago, and Chicago Sinfonettia, to name a few. In 2019, we launched our first Christmas album, "Christmas Carols for Brass," which was featured by Lisa Flynn of WFMT Classical Music Chicago. Conductor and producer Cliff Colnot praised the album as "Outstanding, a true Treat!" and Lisa Flynn named it "#8 on WFMT's Top 10 Christmas Albums of 2019." Our Brass Quintet also performs educational concerts for underserved schools and communities, as we think that music education improves children' lives and, as a result, communities.
