The Poetry Society of New York is a 501(c)3 non-profit rooted in the belief that art and poetry belong to us all. At PSNY, we present poetry unconventionally, transcending the every day and prioritizing accessibility, experimentation, and undeniable fun. Each of our events offers an invitation into a vibrant poetry world specifically designed to stimulate discovery, wonder, and life-long friendships between artists. The Poetry Brothel: At The Poetry Brothel, a “madam” presents a rotating cast of poets and artists who operate within self-constructed characters and share their work through staged public performances, spontaneous immersive eruptions, and, most distinctly, as purveyors of private poetry readings in intimate spaces. Central to The Poetry Brothel experience is the creation of character, which for each artist serves as a disguise and freeing device, enabling The Poetry Brothel to be a place of uninhibited creative expression in which artists and audience members alike can communicate more authentically. Typewriter Poets: Wielding vintage typewriters, our professional and stylish Typewriter Poets write spontaneous, customized poems for clients, employees, & guests to take home as meaningful mementos, personalized gifts, or party favors. PSNY’s corporate Typewriter Poetry clients have included Free People, Opening Ceremony, Rag & Bone, The Macallan, Gilette, and many more. From art openings to corporate events, weddings to holiday parties, and birthdays to baby showers, there’s no event that isn’t enhanced by a Typewriter Poet!
