Four years ago, I had no desire to capture weddings on film. I thought it was a last resort for photographers and videographers who were unsuccessful in other fields. Between 2015 and 2018, I captured a wide range of events on camera, including concerts, merchandise, real estate, portraits, and even skydiving. Even though I still had money in my wallet, I didn't feel satisfied. Fast-forward to when I received an email from my college about a couple in need of a wedding videographer, and I decided to take a look. I was hooked after that wedding. When I witnessed the groom's reaction to his wife as she went down the aisle, the joyous gathering of their nearest and dearest, and the atmosphere around that backyard wedding in October 2018, something inside of me was ignited. Since then, I have perfected my approach & style for weddings through Wild Fern Weddings Videography. I saw couples being taken away from their loved ones as my experience working with and under others increased, only to return an hour or more later with generic images produced by awkward posing and an impersonal attitude to portraying who they were. A bride was yanked out of her father's embrace by a planner as she was hurried to "the next thing on the timeline." After putting her into the outfit, the photographer began posing the mother just as she was going to hold her infant daughter. I aspired to stand out. At that point, I changed my strategy, limited the amount of weddings I shot, and focused on giving my couples an experience that let them be themselves while discreetly documenting it. My entire perspective evolved from merely photographing weddings to thoughtfully recording them and then transforming the image or film into a meaningful treasure that could be viewed whenever my clients (or their loved ones) wished.
