The Avalon Theatre is a historic performing arts and event venue located at 645 Main Street in downtown Grand Junction, Colorado, at the corner of 7th and Main. Built in 1923 by publishing magnate Walter Walker, the theatre was named through a community contest — the name Avalon drawn from Welsh and Celtic tradition, a nod to the apple orchards that once defined the region. After the City of Grand Junction acquired the deteriorating structure in 1996, a significant restoration completed in 2014 expanded seating to 1,096 and gave the theatre its current intimate acoustic quality. The main auditorium seats up to 1,096 guests and has hosted local and national entertainment ranging from concerts and comedy to film screenings and weddings. Additional spaces include the Rooftop Terrace with views of Grand Junction's Bookcliffs, the Mezzanine Lobby, and the newly furnished Encore Hall — designed for meetings, small performances, and screenings. Together, these spaces accommodate gatherings from small meetings of 15 in the mezzanine to full-theatre events for up to 1,000 guests. The Avalon Theatre is managed by Oak View Group and offers wedding packages and event hosting for a wide range of occasions, including birthdays, holiday celebrations, corporate events, reunions, and anniversaries.
