Big Pink

Myles Chefetz, who was born in Miami on Homestead Air Force Base and graduated from the University of Miami Law School, spent the majority of his early adult life in New York City practicing law before transitioning into the restaurant and nightclub business. Chefetz was inspired to expand his expertise to Miami Beach while on vacation in 1994, when he realized that there was a significant need to improve the restaurant scene on South Beach. There has been a revolution. Restaurants in Miami Beach had previously been characterized by a club-like atmosphere that drew customers on specific nights of the week, but Chefetz's arrival signaled the beginning of restaurants that had both a scene and a distinct cuisine. Chefetz introduced an eclectic menu with Nemo, which became a South Beach institution, and opened the retro-styled Big Pink restaurant in 1996, as part of the Myles Restaurant Group. From there, he moved on to Japanese cuisine with Shoji, and in 2004, he opened the world-famous Prime 112 restaurant. Chefetz has twice been named a semifinalist for the James Beard Outstanding Restaurateur Award and has been dubbed the "Sultan of South of Fifth" as a result of his success.
