Camp Cheerio

YMCA Camp Cheerio sits on 135 acres of mountain land in the northwestern corner of North Carolina, near Sparta in Alleghany County — about an hour from Winston-Salem and just two miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Long known as a summer camp, the property also opens for private group weekends each spring and fall, hosting churches, youth organizations, businesses, clubs, and family reunions for mountaintop getaways of up to 200 guests. Rentals run Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon and include the run of the camp's recreation: archery, BB shooting, canoeing, a climbing wall, putt-putt golf, and a lake slide. Meals are served buffet-style in the dining hall, which accommodates vegetarian and special dietary needs. For couples, the on-site Blessing Chapel is available for wedding ceremonies. Groups gather in a relaxed Christian atmosphere, and the camp is accredited by the American Camp Association.
