The David M. Rubenstein Visitor Center serves as the gateway to Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, located on the lower slope of Monticello mountain. The three-level, LEED Gold-certified building spans 42,000 square feet and is arranged as five pavilions around a central courtyard, offering a range of spaces for gatherings once the museum has closed to the public. At its heart, the courtyard is an outdoor space that can be tented and heated, making it well suited to larger evening receptions. The adjoining Howard and Abby Milstein Theater offers audio-visual capabilities and is often paired with the courtyard for talks, receptions, and dinners following after-hours tours. The Robert H. and Clarice Smith Gallery, home to four interactive exhibitions on Jefferson's life and Monticello's history, is available for private after-hours viewings, while the Carl and Hunter Smith Education Center's three multi-purpose classrooms suit workshops, lectures, board meetings, and luncheons. Guest counts across the center's spaces range from 10 to 225. Rentals include onsite staff support from the events, security, and custodial teams, tables and chairs, and access to an exclusive on-site caterer, with ample parking and easy access to the rest of the Monticello mountaintop's tours, galleries, shopping, and dining.
