Dixie Theatre

The Dixie Theatre is a family-owned and operated professional equity theater located at 21 Avenue E in downtown Apalachicola, Florida. Originally constructed in 1912 as a live performance venue, it served the community as a motion picture house before closing in 1967. Following an extensive restoration effort beginning in 1997, the theatre reopened in 1998 and has since returned to its roots as a home for live professional theatre, music, and dance. As one of only a few family-owned professional equity theaters in the country, the Dixie Theatre operates as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with a professional season running January through March. The intimate historic space accommodates approximately 150 guests across orchestra-level tables, mezzanine, and balcony seating — a setup that places audiences close to the action in a setting that reflects more than a century of Apalachicola's cultural life. The venue is available for private events including wedding ceremonies and receptions, offering full use of the historic theatre building. Wheelchair access is available, and on-street parking is located nearby.
