Gardens of the Hampton-Preston Mansion

One of Columbia's oldest estates, the Hampton-Preston property spans three acres of gardens filled with native and exotic plantings. Magnolias and live oaks tower over the grounds, including an extensive back lawn and side gardens, while pergolas, a gazebo, and a fountain garden give planners several distinct backdrops for ceremonies and receptions. The back lawn, lined with magnolia trees, accommodates outdoor events up to 400 guests, with a sunken patio offering recessed lighting and electricity for evening celebrations. A fountain garden provides seating beneath live oak trees, and a covered gazebo offers a sheltered garden setting. A renovated basement area adds restrooms, water fountains, and a private lounge and changing suite, and a restored mid-1800s arboretum with paved walking paths runs through the property. Electricity is available throughout the gardens, and Historic Columbia staff remain on-site for the duration of every event. From October through March, the property's Boyd Foundation Horticultural Center, a greenhouse that opened in March 2022, can be paired with a garden rental, seating 65 guests or hosting 130 standing, with two restrooms, a prep kitchen, and tables and chairs provided for indoor use.
