The Grand Rapids Public Museum, founded in 1854, is one of Michigan's oldest cultural institutions and the first accredited museum in the United States. Housed in the Van Andel Museum Center on the west bank of the Grand River, the museum holds approximately 250,000 artifacts spanning science, history, and culture — including the beloved Streets of Old Grand Rapids exhibit, the Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium, and the Cook Carousel Pavilion. For private events, the museum offers flexible rental configurations across its three exhibition floors. The Galleria — a formal event hall with a dance floor — anchors the first floor and accommodates up to 350 guests for cocktail receptions alongside The Streets of Old Grand Rapids exhibit. Adding the second floor expands capacity to 550, and a full building buyout opens all three floors to up to 2,000 guests for cocktail-style events or conventions. Ceremonies are held in the Meijer Theater, seating up to 255 guests, or the Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium, seating up to 147 under a starry night sky — both equipped with full audiovisual systems. Beverage service is provided in-house, and events are staffed by the museum's own event coordination team. A minimum of 100 guests is required for all rentals.
